Console Cutout New Carpet

Having never replaced carpet before, but doing so soon, my first thought was to purchase with the console cutout already thinking it would be less to worry about, but have seen on here many buy without the cutout. Is there a benefit or drawback to one way or the other?

Thank you!

Re: Console Cutout New Carpet

Get the one with the console cut out, makes it much easier. I just replaced my carpet in my 87 formula and the easiest way to get the carpet in is to split the carpet from the console opening to the top of the carpet. This is the only way I know to get the carpet under the radio housing.

Makes sense, thank you Louis!

Anyone else that has ordered without the cutout, curious as to why?

I agree get the one with the console cut out, I had to replace my carpets and looked at both, cut out or non cut out. I have an 84 TA and the radio/heater housing is part of the centre console so it come's fully out but when fitting the carpet in having the cut out I found allowed for easier placement in my car, in the end its up to you but I found it much easier. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback, I will stick to my original thinking and go with the cutout!

Re: Console Cutout New Carpet

Unless you have a heavily modified car and removed the center console for 5 lbs of weight savings, or want extra material leftover for custom work or repairs down the road, I can't think of a reason NOT get it cut for the console.

Thanks I will be going with the cut out version, seems most are in agreement that it's the best way.

Re: Console Cutout New Carpet

The cutout is not nearly large enough. It does help to center the carpet though.

I agree. Get the cutout, but you'll probably still have to trim. I know I did.
