Short term solution to T-top problem
Hey guys, got an 87 iroc...so for the time being...a short period of time before I get the weather stripping on the t-tops replaced I need a solution to help keep water out. The car will be outside for a few weeks...i have a very nice car cover for it...its not a rain ex cover but more breathability, and softer material for the paint...so a small bit of water is leaking in from t-tops.
Could a short term solution be to put a small pre cut piece of tarp over that area where the water will hopefully run down and away? Thanks...i realize it may scratch the paint but I plan on being careful and also removing the cover after it rains to let the tarp dry out as well

If it's just for a few weeks, I would think that would be an OK solution.

you could just put duct tape around to seal it completely. if you have a tarp on by itself, it could create a low point for the water to collect and make it sag. just make sure the tarp is enough to go over the driver and passenger windows.

Are the ttops still in the car or will they not be?
If they are still going to be in it, use electrical tape on the seams. No nasty residue like duct tape.

Thanks for the input, didn't know that about electrical tape...this weekend my gf will be out of town...so this will be the perfect opportunity to take some things from the garage put them into the shed and rearrange that durn thing for the car...long story short...bought it mid April, had it 3 weeks, took it to mechanic to get radiator replaced that blew on me, and I'm hopefully fingers crossed getting the car back this weekend...(another long story) haha

the previous owner of my car used the foam weather strip tape you would use around the door of your house and it works really well until I get it repainted and new seals.

Electrical tape will work well for a temporary fix if the ttop panels and center bar are in place. I've done this before, just lap every seam and tuck it around the rain guards on the ends. I would not use duct tape at all. After 1 day, it will leave residue and after a few weeks, you will be hard pressed to get it back off. A 5x8 tarp will work well and this what I have over a friend's car I'm working on because I just replaced the ttop rails and I just have the old rubber seals sitting on top of the new tracks, no center piece and the ttops latched in with a tarp over it. You would not want to use a tarp on a good painted car for very long, not to mention you need it cinched super tight, otherwise the bungee cords will move/shift or flop in the wind and scuff the paint. In my case, it doesn't matter as this one is going to a paint shop in 2 weeks.

Re: Short term solution to T-top problem
Hey guys...speaking of all this I found a body shop that will replace the t-top weather stripping for 47 an hour...i see on places like camaro central and what not that the entire weather stripping set for the t-top area is about 250ish I believe...how much do u think a job like this on average cost...i don't think I have a bunch of rust or anything up there...the car SEEMS to have been garage kept for most of its life...from what I can tell.
