1982 camaro fuse box/wiring question
Hey folks I have a 1982 Camaro z28, rats and PO had a heyday with the wiring. I've got everything in working order except the brake lights (tail lights work fine, but no brake lights) can anyone tell me the colors of the wires/what I should be looking for? I found the two switches ontop of the brake pedal, assume one is cruise and one for brake lights?
Also if anyone has a picture of how and where the fuse box mounts under the dash I would greatly appreciate it I cannot find anywhere it looks like it fits.

The diagram on Austin appear to be for the 82 & 83 Firebird. These are from the 82 Camaro shop manual & should be the same as your 83.


Turn on the HAZARD lights. If they work then the Tail / Hazard fuse and wires are OK to and from the fuse at the fuse box.
Check, test, or replace dead bulbs first if possible.
The Brown wires at the brake switch should have power all the time.
When you push the brake pedal ( switch = OUT) the LT Blue wire at the brake switch should have battery voltage.
Check ground wires if LT Blue wires have voltage when pedal is pushed and lights do not function.
If you have voltage at the switch when pedal is pushed - but no voltage at LT Blue wire at the brake light socket - there's a break in the circuit somewhere. The 82-84 cars didn't use twisted copper wire in the tail light harness, they used solid wire. That stuff didn't 'accept' abuse or hacks/splices very well so look for any extreme bends or twists in the harness for a broken wire. ( Seen folks use a "quick connect" wire to tap into the brake light and wreck the circuit before; quick-connects almost always just slice thru the solid wire. )
Side note; You aren't POPPING fuses but If all else fails don't rule out a bad Audio Alarm, or Hazard Flasher. They share the very same circuit as the brake switch & You never really know what to expect when an electrical part (or several in combination) fails.

Ah.... that's possibly the issue.... I'll snap a picture when I get home (if the rain stops) I had to replace my harness that runs from the drivers rear panel to the drivers kick panel. All the wires are connected..... but the light blue one was left hanging. I wasn't sure what it went to, but when I touched it to grd/pwr (can't remember which) it affected the fuel gauge on the dash.... not entirely sure if that's the light blue wire in question, but it's the only one I am aware of that runs down the drivers side of the car.
I've had the interior, carpert, everything down to bare metal in the process of repairing some rust, and adding sound deadener under the carpet. I finished up the deadener project, and I am not in the process of repairing wiring, and putting the interior back together.
What I have done:
No lights worked prior to this:
1. Replaced all bulbs in the rear lights
2. repairing the ground wiring in the trunk area (This gave me lights: Tail lights, turn signals) ** No idea on reverse lights yet, shifter isn't bolted completely in yet.
3. My wiper switch/stalk is very "loose" I'm thinking I will need to replace it, and possibly the mechanism under the steering wheel.
I'm still at a loss on where to bolt my fuse box back up under the dash, if anyone has a picture of that, it would be helpful, it's currently just hanging down.
