OER does not refurbish anything. It will be a new item.
OER items are usually 80% in my eyes. They always seem to drop the ball on something. The only time they nailed it for me was the repro Formula wheels.
Any idea what the going rate is now for Chuck to do one of these? Actually, I'm not sure I've ever seen a price listed. Going to have to search for that...

A few opinions about the picture on OER’s website— but has anyone here actually purchased and installed their steering wheel?
I’m deciding if this is the way to go, too. I have a quote to recover my IROC wheel from https://craftcustoms.com. It would just be easier to swap wheels rather than wait 2-3 weeks to get mine back.
My 89 came with an aftermarket wheel I hated... Bought one of the oer pieces.... I am happy with it....does the job and way better than the Grant wheel it had... But that's just me. I doubt it's perfect... But all the used ones I saw were $200+ and still needed a rewrap....people want a lot of money for crappy originals.... Different story if you still have an original.
I got my OER steering wheel today. It's as close to original as you're ever going to get. I am SUPER happy with it! It looks light years better than a re wrapped wheel. It actually looks and feels like an OEM wheel

Is it real leather? Its in the pics above, but does it come with the hub? It does look good, maybe chuck pelton is making them for OER?
It looks and feels like an original steering wheel. I am guessing it's real leather. The hub comes with it.
I have seen Chuck Pelton re-wraps and this looks WAAAYYYY better. I can spot a re-wrap immediately. This looks just like an OEM wheel. It would fool anyone.
To revive an old thread, I just installed an OER steering wheel in my 1987 Iroc-Z. The wheel looks and feels great. It’s much better than my ratty original wheel. However, it’s not perfect. Firstly, the padding on the wheel and, thus, the overall rim is a bit thinner than my factory wheel. Second and more importantly, the plastic collar that mates up to the steering column was too long/deep. It had a hard interference with the column plastic when I bolted it up. In the end, I had to remove over 3mm of material to get the wheel to fit nicely. Finally, the sheen and color of that plastic collar is way off compared to the steering column. Someday, I may remove it and rivet on the plastic collar from my original wheel. Or I might get the original wheel refurbished. Either way, I do think this was ok for an instant gratification-type improvement.
They recover wheels but since I haven't found too many places that do this, I will contact them.
It actually looks better than the other examples I have seen from others. Of course, I think a lot of it had to do with bad photography. The spokes had bad lighting/reflections.
I remember when the car was new the spokes had a very thin, satin finish, almost like anodizing. I don't want the spokes to have a thick coat of paint that would ruin the crispness of the grooves.
Just and FYI on this thread. I live locally to Dallas Custom Steering Wheel. I mean it is less than 11 miles from the house. I just called and got a price quote to take my original steering wheel, shift ball (automatic), and emergency brake handle in for recovery. The price? $449 for the steering wheel, $200 for the shift ball, and $200 for the emergency brake handle. $849 plus tax to have the OEM stuff recovered with no shipping. I know that inflation is high, interior work is a trained skill/art, and that having a "classic car" is expensive, butt WOW! The price for the steering wheel is comparable to OER $409.10, that is with shipping. Add in the tax and it is probably a "wash".
That's comparable to Craft Customs. They want $449 for the wheel, $165 for the shifter ball, and $135 for the handle. If it weren't for the incorrect style, I'd probably go with the OER based on the reviews I've seen.
New shifter ***** are around $80 but the stitching is incorrect. The seam should be vertical, not horizontal. I need to decide if that is enough to make me pull the trigger to get my original recovered. If they use a good quality leather it would be worth it. An OER one I bought several years ago started to wear a lot faster than the original one did.
EDIT: Dallas just got back with me. Same prices you quoted but they won't paint the spokes. I suppose I could experiment with different painting techniques to get the results I'm looking for.
That kit looks pretty good, better if it comes with the foam padding.
I haven't redone my wheel, but i did the shift ball/e-brk handle. Plus a shifter boot for the automatic.
Padding is available. I think I'm gonna give it a shot. I recovered it years ago with a generic cover and my stitching turned out pretty good.
It will be $205 for the smooth Nappa leather cover, padding and a shifter boot.
these look really good! Please post the results if you do end up using them. Black Napa leather with padding and a gold racing stripe at the top of the steering wheel sounds nice to me lol

I may go find me a rotten ol steering wheel and give this a shot too. I also saw other colors are available.
The e-brake is easy to do, shifter ball only slightly harder. I even redid my horn button and console lid myself, but Id rather buy this kit for the wheel than try my hand at making the cover from scratch.
