Am thinking about replacing my cloth GTA seats for various reasons some of them being age / fading, foam needs some upgrading, driver side back squeeks like crazy... so I saw this ebay seller who has Teal leather, Leather and Imitation leather all in beechwood color. There is a big jump from imitation leather to the other (950$ vs 1300$) so was wondering if anyone tried his products and if imitation leather is any good.
i know some will mention Princess buy hey I live in the middle of the Mediterranean and my options are very little compared to you guys.
Synthetic leather is suppose to be more durable the natural leather. The only syn leather i have experience with is hampton leather. Ive only had it in my car for about 5 months, so no long term feedback, but there are others here who have more time on theirs. I think the main giveaway is the smell when it comes to telling the two apart. Im happy with mine so far though, but time will tell.
Interesting. Sent him a msg on ebay a couple days ago and still no reply but i thought it’s because of the current covid situation...
Are there any other alternatives?
Looks like Rubik818 has been a seller for about 15 years, with a 100% rating for the last 12 months, at least. The seat covers do look very nice. A lot of options, too. Seems different than the same options offered by everyone else. Some ebay sellers have posted, closed, due to the virus, but he hasn't, so try again. The products look worth contacting him, and his reputation appears to be good.
Hawk's www.hawksmotorsports.com is an option. But hold onto your keypad, because whenever that name gets mentioned around here, it's always followed by some very colorful comments! But I think Hawk's seat cover kits are the same that everyone else offers, so it's not something they can mess up LOL. Just some reputation issues for some people, not with others. Probably more expensive from Hawk's, though. I've experienced good and bad with Hawk's. But when Hawk's appears to be my only option, I'm not concerned enough to avoid them.
Stock Interiors www.stockinteriors.com offers seat covers, too. I'd imagine they're the same that everyone else offers. Prices look good. I just purchased a complete set of new carpet from them, and I believe a lot of other TGO members have, too. Haven't heard of people claiming to have purchased seat covers from them. But definitely a reputable vendor.
Thanks for all the info. I will surely give Rubik another shout as his product does look to be proper.
Will check out also Hawks. As you said, I don’t think it’s actually made by themselves but worth checking and if someone has experience with their seat covers I would appreciate some views.
The thing is that when I add the price of the covers, the ridiculous shipping and taxes I will incur, the labor to have them installed especially the fronts which will surely need some frame repairs and re foaming, these are going to cost an arm and a leg so I want to be sure I make the right decision.
Just want to let you know that Rubik replied back and am now speaking with him. I want to clarify this to avoid any misjudgment on this guy. Somehow his first reply didn’t go through.
Will let you know how it goes with his product if i decide to go ahead.
Its Hampton vinyl. Still undecided between these and others that you can find from everyone else like Hawks, Classic, Rockauto which are also made from Hampton Vinyl/Leatherette but at half of the price. I believe quality is going to be better on the more expensive ones but not sure by how much better.
I am interested in what you wind up doing. After owning this car an it's redone interior for 18 years I am facing having to do this again. They guy who did my interior eighteen years ago is retired and nowhere to be found!
I put a set of his in my 4th gen fit and everything works very well. I’ve been to his store here in Los Angeles too and bought things for my 3rd gen also. He had many 3rd and 4th gen for sale under camarokingla Don’t know if he still does everything, it’s been a few years.
As someone who has had work done by Princess/Lethal Interiors, the kit that Hawk's/Classic Industries and everyone else sells, and had work done by a local professional custom guy, I'll share my two cents, and I think it comes down to what the current condition of your seats are NOW.....and how you use the car and where you want them to BE, when you're done.
The Hawk's/Classic Industries kit is affordable, and is worth what you get. If your seats are shot, torn, stained, it'll make them look really nice. There is NO DOUBT that these are what they are, and NOT factory quality, or professionally reupholstered seats. -but again, they're worth the money you spend.
If your seats are already and decent shape, and you wanna up your game, I wouldn't consider anyone who isn't custom making them for you. Princess does SOOO many 3rd and 4th gen seats that I trusted her, and her reputation to be able to properly make them remotely, and she didn't disappoint. A local upholsterer will have the actual seats to look at for size and fitment, and will also look great, assuming they know what they're doing. No disrespect to anyone else, and I'm SURE there are those who can make amazing covers without putting their hands on the seats, but I'm sure there are far more who'll take your money, overpromise, and under deliver. No disrespect to the guy the OP is talking to, and he may do amazing work.....but I just don't know that I'd put that much money into a project without them being a known and reliable company. -For what its worth, the pictures do look good.
