Upon arrival, I noticed that the connectors are not the same as the one in my car now. I'm hoping someone may have some experience with the one that I purchased and maybe point me in the direction of making a harness that will fit it, finding one in the wild and providing a wiring diagram. The harness part number is GM 88892597
Here are pictures of what the male end of the mirror looks like:
I have a 1990 (made in 1989) that has the factory original mirror with map lights and it doesn’t look anything like that one on the classic industries site. The shape isn’t even correct. That’s the problem with a lot of those aftermarket places selling restoration parts claiming they are “oer” or “correct”. Ive bought parts from Classic Industries in the past and most of them fell short of the mark and went back. I bought one of their “exact fit oem” arrowhead emblems for the front of my Firebird Esprit and the damn thing wasn’t even the same size as the original so it left this huge visible indentation on the nose. I took it back and bought an NOS vintage GM one off eBay and it fit perfectly. It was only $10 more than the repro junk one from classic. Stuff like that annoys me. Do it right or don’t do it at all. For what they ask for their parts they should be perfect. They were asking $70 for that nose emblem if I recall correctly.
I believe it’s possible to replace the mirror inside the original housing if you’re careful.
I would imagine your original mirror looks the same as mine and has a cord with a connector. I would just return that mirror and get one that is correct for the car. You shouldn’t have to modify anything to work.

Jim, do they make replacement glass for that factory mirror? Mine is all spotty. I have the exact factory one you have pictured. Want to replace the mirror glass.

They didnt give you a harness to plug into that? I agree return it and tell them this i not made for your year car. If you can get a harness you can modify it I would think.

according to what I’ve read here you can replace the glass by removing the bezel around the front of the mirror,it snaps off. The problem is finding a replacement mirror. The mirror glass is actually wedge shaped (thicker at top than the bottom) if you look at it. I don’t know where you’d get the glass from. Maybe someone here does.

Yes I am aware of the wedge shape. I have been looking for a replacement glass for some time to no avail. The only option is the re silver the glass itself.
I ran into a similar problem with the drivers side mirror glass. All are oversized and meant to glue on top of the existing glass. Where as the passenger side is the exact fit and replacement. Very strange.
I wonder what it would cost to re-silver an old mirror? This seems to be a common problem with all classic cars. Most of the cars that I have from the 50s also have spotting in the mirror

I found some guy on eBay that does it for 35 bucks, not including shipping. But that is is high. I am looking for places around me. Otherwise buy a kit and do it myself.
Thanks for the feedback. I do have an original mirror, like the one posted above by Jim Rockford. The lights work on the one currently installed in my car, its just the glass that's bad. I wasn't aware of "silvering" glass. I may look into that and take that route.
I am interested to know if anyone is aware of other vehicles from that era that may have had the same mirror, other than firebirds.

Here is the kit. Does about 8 car mirrors they informed me.

That seems like a bargain compared to spending a lot more money on an aftermarket mirror that’s not correct for the car and doesn’t look the same. Plus,if it’s done correctly you won’t have to worry about it again.
You’d think that since these are now considered “classic cars”,and have a strong following that Classic industries or some other “restoration parts” supplier would just make the mirror part available, ior reproduce the entire mirror exactly. I’ve never understood the sloppy attempts at so many items. Especially these days with the Internet, word spreads fast.

Could you provide me the link to the Ebay Guy?
I tried calling some Glass and Mirror places around me, Central PA, but they all don't do it.

Not if you have to do several like I do. I am going to get the re-mirror kit for my needs. But If you have a 1 off I guess it might be worth it.
I went with the Ebay seller. I'll post the before and after once the service is fulfilled. That way if any of you are curious you can see how well/terrible it went

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions!
Great, please let us know and glad to have helped out!
Hey, Hawkeye. I did send it. He's had it since Wednesday. I haven't heard anything back since. Once I get it back, I"ll report back with the results. I'm hoping it will be back by this Friday, 10/9.
He has been super easy to work with so far, so that's a good sign.
I"m not sure on the turn around time. I reached out last week and he stated that he figured that it'd be done by last week. I'll give it until tomorrow and then I'll be reaching back out for an update.
Just received an update! They finished the last coat of paint on the back today and expect to ship it out on Wednesday. So I'll probably have it by the weekend/Monday.

Thanks for the update. Sorry it took a bit to reply I’ve been busy with work. I look forward to seeing the results
Today is the day we, especially me, have been waiting for. It has arrived. I'm very satisfied with how it turned out!!!
It took about 2.5 weeks from the time I sent it out till the time I received it back. This will vary depending on where you're shipping from. He lives in upstate NY.
