seat rocks

Have an 89 Trans am where the seat rocks back and forth. I have checked all 4 bolts holding it down. They are tight and do not wiggle.
It seems more like the seat rack/slide is loose in the tracks.

This is only on the drivers side.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Re: seat rocks

You'll need to see what part is rocking and then determine what part is broken / loose.

Is this the standard seat track or the adjustable one with tilt etc? those tilts were a bit more complicated and have spots that seem to wear and cause play.

Re: seat rocks

Are you talking about the four bolts on the floor boards? The seat tracks also bolt to the underside of the seat frame. Those might be the culprits you're looking for.

Yes the 4 bolts to the floor boards are tight. it appears as if it rocks between the frame that is bolted into the floor and the tracks the seat rides on. But with all the power stuff in the way hard to tell.

I had found a post on another forum via google search about some sort of plastic bushings that were in the track that caused a rocking. Sounded similar to the headlight plastic/gel bushings. But now I cant find it again lol.

Was hoping it was a common problem.

Guess I wont know for sure until I get the seat out of the car.

Re: seat rocks

I just pulled my power seat out of the driver's side of my 88' Iroc with the same problem. It is exactly that, there appears to be some kind of plastic bushing that sits inside the rail. I'm interested in your solution so keep us posted!

Re: seat rocks

Sounds like a job for Lon at TDS. I would guess the hatch motor plastic slides are made out of a similar material Might be a product opportunity for him.

Re: seat rocks

So mine does not look like it will be the plastic bushings...unless they are bad also.

I have what looks like 2 rivets that broke on the inside track. I have the seat out, but have yet to remove the mechanism from the bottom of the seat.
I have been waiting , thinking about how I will reconnect it.

the pictures are not the best.

Re: seat rocks

I put my seat back together with some flat head SS bolts and lock nuts. No more rocking so my issues was NOT the plastic bushings in the tracks,

I did discover its a common problem with plastic bushings n the C5 corvettes and there are replacement bushings.
Maybe they will work or can be modified to work?
