Trunk Pull down motor

I am having trouble with my 88 gta trunk pull down motor. It is stuck in the down position and the motor will not stop running. I pressed the switch that the truck latch touches when closing but did not help. Disconnected reconnected still motor running. I loosened the 3 bolts and the place guides that hold the down and up mechanism just disintegrated. Bought new nylon guides on ebay waiting for them to come in but what would cause the motor to stay on and down?

Re: Trunk Pull down motor

There is a control switch that reverses and limits the travel on the motor that wears out and doesn't work right. Not available anywhere that I've found. I had to put a manual switch behind the license plate on my 88. Don't like it but couldn't come up with anything else. If you come up with a solution please post it here.

Okay looks like the reversing switch is gm 20614880.
west coast auto parts will rebuild it for $90. So I think I am just going tovship it to them.

Re: Trunk Pull down motor

Just saying, I spent a bunch of time and effort rebuilding my unit, only to have it fail again a few months later... I would get an entire remanufactured unit and call it a day, it is more expensive, but I swear its like brand new again. Which helps cause I put new weather-stripping on and the old motor struggled

the cheapest I can find a complete unit is $300-350.

Re: Trunk Pull down motor

I have this problem. I can get it to stop if I push down on the deck when it closes. but its very frustrating.

Re: Trunk Pull down motor

Cheapest option i can find is to send my reverse switch to west coast auto parts and they will rebuild it for $90. Then I will just go from there.
