Aftermarket steering wheels

Starting to shop around for a steering wheel for my resto mod 91 Z28.
Been looking at Billet Specialties flat bottom wheels. I plan to have their rims on the car as well and they even have complimentary wheels to rims.

So that is the top choice for now. It is a pretty penny, and this is OK, but it also begs the question, is there something else that is high quality, US based and looks great.
I prefer simple designs that are not over styled. Interior of the car is all custom pieces painted satin black. All still in primer.

I went with an Eddie Motorsports unit. I too wanted black and simple. Ignore the rest of the disaster of my interior.

Thanks for sharing the pic. Looks great.

I really want something flat bottom. They just all look like toys, except the Billet Specialties ones.

I agree with the flat bottom. It's hard enough getting into these cars

Re: Aftermarket steering wheels

might be a dumb question, but can the factory steering wheel be modified to have a flat bottom??? i've never had a steering wheel apart to see what / how it's made. maybe the bottom could be cut off and a flat piece installed. then just have a shop cover with leather.

Re: Aftermarket steering wheels

Neat idea. My build is far further down the custom rabbit hole.

I have a universal flaming river steering column and my old air bag wheels has been gone for almost 20 years! haha.

Also, for a one off interior like I am making I don't want anything stock.

Theme of the build is sorta like a sleek modern, try not to look like something from the 90's sorta thing.

I re-arranged my purchase path and the steering wheel moved down quite a few steps. So won't need a decision for a few more months. Hard to beat Billet Specialties, even at $900.

Re: Aftermarket steering wheels

I understand where you’re coming from. I’ve customized almost everything on my protour build TA and now that I’m in the home stretch with the interior, I’m finding it hard to figure out what I want to do. I’ve already reinstalled the whole dash and finished most of the wiring but now I’m wondering if I should build a completely custom dash & middle console. If nothing else I’ve done is stock will a mostly stock appearing dash look stupid now?? I‘ve been working on this car for over 10 years and I really don’t want to redo stuff at this point but I also don’t want to rush through stuff or take shortcuts just cause I’m close to finishing this thing (for now anyway since no car is ever truly done right).

Re: Aftermarket steering wheels

Here is when I was about half way done with the center console last year. Custom dash based off the stock unit shapes.
Same with center console.
If you look at my build you can see how I made them and some further along pics.
Don't have anything showing all the custom pieces. Will in about a month. Waiting for slightly higher temps to shoot high build on the last of the parts.
