85-89 Firebird to 90-92 dash pieces
I really prefer the look of the 90-92 Bird interiors. I got everything for cheap to do the swap.
Gauge bezel
Defrost/trunk/fog bezel and switches + connectors
Driver side knee pad
Driver side underdash "plastic"
Should Bolt in and go?
Thanks!

I really like the look of first gens but you wont see me trying to Frankenstein my thirdgen into a weird mix.
Why not just buy a 90-92 Firebird?

Is my car going to be a weird mix once it gets its LS?

The switch wiring is different iirc and the supports for the driverside knee pad area is different too. Not sure all the brackets to mount it would be the same.

for wiring Ill be ok got the connectors from donor car. It was really the knee pad that has me thinking. I have to pull the cluster out to fix the odometer so I'll investigate then.

This doesn't fit. You need the whole dash from a 90-92 to make it work. All thr mounting points for the cluster bezel, knee pad, switch pod etc. are different on the 85-89 dash.
Even the ALDL port is at a different location, also the dash wiring and position of convenience center, blinker relay etc etc are different.

This is something you want, and you said you have the parts, so why not try the trim pieces and see for yourself? If they fit, then go about the switches and wiring. In much less time than you've spent online discussing it, you could've already had your answers. What's to lose?

Re: 85-89 Firebird to 90-92 dash pieces
Maybe you haven't taken apart a Firebird before? I think it will take a me a little longer than the 4 minutes combined time I've spent on this thread.
sorry for asking a question on thirdgen. If you bothered to read a few posts up I said I would try when I pull the cluster. Mr JC and Ttop actually contributed useful info. This isnt a life or death mod I need to do on my car.
Unless someone else has something to say regarding this swap please stfu and gtfo out my thread.

Of course, I've taken apart a Firebird. Plenty of times. Two of my own, and I've taken apart many a junkyard Firebird when scouring for good parts. As for this thread, you started it 5 days ago, not 4 minutes ago. You could've accomplished the task in a few hours, at least, as far as you'd have needed to go to know if this could be done. And I was being helpful, not sarcastic. You just took it wrongly.

Dude, now 5 1/2 minutes combined total time spent since 5 days ago. Do you really think I have a few hours for fun to take my interior apart?

"Dude" I'm on your side. You've missed the point completely. I spoke up because I was disappointed that you seemed to, apparently, throw in the towel on this so easily just because a couple of people told you it couldn't be done, when you have the parts and could've tried it to see for yourself.
Don't let people deter you from trying the things you want to do. That's why it's never a good idea to post about things you "want to do" or that you're "going to do," like so many dreamers on TGO, who end up never doing them. And, yes, I do think you could've done it, to test fit the few pieces in question, or at least to compare them to your existing parts. It's only a few pieces we're talking about, not the whole interior.
And since you mentioned it lol, you've spent way more than 5-1/2 minutes. There's reading, composing, typing, posting, not to mention all the time you've probably spent online here and elsewhere.
I don't even like the idea of what you want to do, but I never said that. I want to see you do it because it's what YOU want to do.

I hope the upgrade worked. Or if your still planning on the conversion I have a NOS guage cluster lens still in box. They can crack easily when removing or the original may be worn and foggy. Ill never use it. I dint end up replacing mine.
Looking at your pics got me thinking is there a way to add airbag to an 89? Its silly but I was curious if anyone tried it. The steering wheel is a lot beefier and looks cooler. The 89 bird had a hollowed out hole between the horn buttons. The cover pulled out to access horn wiring. It was a small compartment that wouldn't fit an airbag but it seems they were thinking ahead for the next model. Does anyone know when they were first installed. Was it in 90? Were they problematic? Im guessing they probably were
I bought a Firebird base model new in 89 and I was a bit pissed about the cool upgrades that were included in 90-92. Particularly the ground effects and the nose design.

You can bolt the newer wheel on to your column. Now getting it to work would be a whole other ball game

Hey, haven't done it yet. Have to disagree with you about the air bag wheel, its hideous lol. So was my stock 89 wheel lol. I quickly swapped in stock Firebird 3 spoke wheel. A couple of months I installed a Lecarra and wow is it nice
