1989 GTA Dash question

Well, I made a rookie mistake. When I took apart my dash last autumn, I did not take pictures of anything as I was going. So now I'm going off memory, and while that and process of elimination has worked so far, I've hit a road block. Can anyone tell me where this goes? There is a bracket that it might mount to, but not sure, and any idea what this box is?

All of this was taken apart because I was trying access the HVAC box to make sure there were no obstructions and all the flaps were working (they are as best as I could tell) because I had very low air flow. I've since bought a blower motor since the old one worked, but doubtful it is at full strength. I'll need to check the vacuum lines/system too I'm sure.

Re: 1989 GTA Dash question

When my power antennae failed, I had that area of my dash apart too. See the original post HERE.

These are the modules I had.

Left to right, UQ7 Performance Sound amplifier, Cruise Control Module (what you are looking for), Power antennae relay, rear window defroster relay.

Re: 1989 GTA Dash question

I'm pretty sure the black box is cruise control related and it mounts with 2 screws and that bracket just below your hand in the picture. It should mount to the left of where the ground screw hole is right below the relay with the pink, orange, and black wire.

I'm thinking the blower was on its way out as if you had vacuum issues you would likely only get air moving at the windshield defrost only as that is where the default is for safety purposes, also you would likely hear a loud hiss from air leaking in the area of the hvac controls. Also how does the heater core look? It would be easy to replace now with everything apart.

Thank you! That is exactly the kind of picture I was looking for. I hope I can get everything to play nice and go back together correctly. Since now I know that the box is for the CC, I'll check the wires as best I can. The CC has not worked since the swap, I don't have a clue as to what the system isn't 'seeing', or if it's trying to output but can't/won't.

It could be fan and vacuum related honestly. While I didn't hear any hissing, I'm not convinced that everything was actuating correctly either. As I get everything back together, I'll be keeping an eye on those lines. I didn't even think to look at the heater core, I'll see if I can sneak a peek. Though the dash is somewhat apart, it's nowhere close to 'pull the core out' apart. Unless I'm massively misjudging what needs to be pulled off to get to the core?

There are really times that I wish I had the time/resources to pull this whole car apart and put it back right/better. Basically restomod, but most of the mods being the under the skin stuff, so it works in a better, more serviceable, modern way.
