My 87 hardtop bird needs a new headliner, the board is in repairable condition, but if the ABS headliners are any good, I may spring for one, anyone have pictures of one going in?
I used one in my 84 hardtop Camaro, but I got it from "Stock Interiors". It is the same one that is sold by everyone, including Hawks, so shop around for best price and shipping. I bought mine bare and got the fabric in bulk because I modified mine to better suit the car. I filled the holes for the visors and seat belt retractors because they were unused due to the harnesses. I will post some pictures later today. The best advice that I can give is to use a quality adhesive made specifically for headliners. I used 3M Super 77 first and had to redo it, including buying more fabric, because the summer heat released the adhesive and it sagged above the driver and passenger heads. Overall the board fit great, but there are no retention clips in the middle of the windshield. I bonded three of the plastic clips to the back with 3M 8115 panel bond. I hope this helps.
I have the Hawks ABS headliner in my car. Fits fine other than front edge having a gap to the roof. I'm blind to that now, never think about it.
Fabric began to sag in one specific area shortly after install. Took the fabric off and found no glue applied in that area. Redid everything with new material from Hobby Lobby and it has been fine since. Plenty of work to clean it up and fix it though. Would have just ordered it bare if I knew that was going to be in my destiny.
Bought one with headliner for t-top from Rockauto years ago and fitment was ok. It came folded due to shipment but no issues at all. Only thing already mentioned: there are no clips near the rearmirror so I used some velcro strips
I've got the Hawks T top headliner in my car. Fits good but being as it gets pretty hot where I live in the summer it droops so I ended up having to put a screw in the center by the windshield to hold it in place. Been there for at least 12 years now
I've got the hardtop headliner and I don't have any issues... BUT, my car has the overhead console. I've heard that they can sag in cars that don't have the console.
Last week I installed a new headliner from PUI interiors in my 1988 GTA. Fitment was really good, apart from the front, which I will surely be fixed with some velcrotape.
Took about an hour to remove the old one and install a new one, with my spouse helping me.
