Loose vent fix

So while I'm finishing the dash I wanted to fix the vents so they stay put again. They had little half moon foam stickers. You can see what's left of them in the pics. After checking for ideas here I came across using o-rings.
So I broke out the gen o-ring set, they are good and tight. Also, I cleaned them up.

Slipped it over the posts and done!

Re: Loose vent fix

That's a neat o ring set. When I did mine I used green R134a o rings because that's what I had. Worked really well. They have a smooth, high (but not ridiculous) resistance to them and stay in place even over the worst roads Michigan has to offer.

Did you use o-rings on both sides?

I did, not sure if it was necessary but beats doing it again.

Re: Loose vent fix

I used foam tape a couple years back, but it flattened out and now they're a little loose, so looking for something permanent. Gonna give o rings a try.

Oh yeah, the pins are different sizes. I guess to keep from installing them backwards.

Re: Loose vent fix

How do you remove the vent without it breaking? I'm so nervous that it's going to shatter since the blades are already crooked.

Re: Loose vent fix

I used a small screw driver and pulled the clip out from within the vent. Pull on the vent slightly as you pull the clip out and it usually pops right out. I used a pick awl with the curved/bent end once and that worked pretty good too. Tricky part is to not let the popped side to slip back in while trying to remove the other side.

I kind iof cheated and from my other thread I pulled the whole dash to fix it. While it was out I could pop them out with a small flathead from the inside.
But you can get them out from the front, if you look at my pics of the vent -pry in on the swivel carefully, pull out, and then do the other side and both can flex to get it out.
