Tach and Oil Pressure Gauge Not Working

Hey All, I recently replaced the battery and alternator in my 1987 IROC. When I did this, the tachometer stopped working. The oil pressure gauge also does not work. Will replacing the tach and oil pressure gauge circuit board fix both of these problems ?? Has anyone done this before and did it fix the problem. Thanks.

I think we are all wondering why those would stop working.... Replacing a battery or alternator would not affect those gages.... I am not sure a short would even do that...I pull my battery every winter for 10 years and that doesn't happen...

I would start by testing the oil pressure sender to see that it's working...you have to start with the sensors and gages... A factory service manual helps here....

Did you have the key on when you replaced parts? Did you jump start the car before replacing? I've seen cars that were jump started or did the jump
start and gauges mess up. Mostly tach, speedo or oil pressure but even seen ECM's get spiked by voltage during starting proceed.

Hi Joe, thanks for the reply. Yeah I did have to jump start the Camaro. That's when the gauges stopped working. Would replacing the circuit board for the two gauges fix the problem ?? Thanks, Mike

Ouch.... I once connected the battery after I had already turned the key.... Guess what reminded my to reinstall the battery....? And it fried the ecm.... Had to replace.... Expensive lesson.... I could see a jump being an issue.

The circuit boards are pretty cheap... I did mine for like $60 from Cajun speedo I think....the biggest pain is getting the cluster out.
