Project car is all apart. I need to put the window up.

This is my LS427/570, Tremec T56 Magnum F swapped, 1987 IROC and the interior is all taken apart. The steering column is out as is the instrument cluster. The C100 connector is out of the car and there is currently no wiring in the engine bay. Obviously no battery or battery wiring as I'm going to be running a trunk mounted battery in the spare tire compartment.

I need to raise the driver's side window so that I can install some sound deadening material. I looked at my shop manual and saw the power window schematic:

This looks pretty straightforward. The window switches in the center console get their power from the pink wires. For the driver's side, the dark blue wire should send power to the window motor to raise the window.

You can see the dark blue wire going to the motor. The brown wire is to lower the window.

I'm 99% sure that these are the power window switch connectors.

I ***thought*** that I'd be able to take a battery and connect the the negative terminal to the black wire in the connector and then apply positive power to the dark blue wire and the window would raise. It didn't. After looking at the window motor, it appeared that the motor is grounded to the body of the car. So, I connected my battery's negative terminal to the seat stud. I then applied positive battery power to the dark blue wire and still got nothing. I then tried something else. I still had the battery grounded to the seat stud and I also applied negative power to the black wire in the connector. I then applied positive power to the dark blue wire and got nothing. No sparks, no nothing.

I tried applying positive power to the brown wire (down) and got nothing. No sparks, no nothing.

What am I doing wrong here?

Did you try grounding the door itself?

No, not the door itself. I grounded the body of the car by connecting the battery negative terminal to one of the four passenger seat studs.

If it were me, I'd try grounding closer to the motor to see if it makes a difference. Also try the other side to rule out that the motor died.

Wired one way it goes up, wired the other way it goes down. When I sell doors, everyone wants the window down. I just made a set of jumpers with spade connectors that push into my Milwaukee batterys and open ends on the other end. Works like a charm.

Just jump the motor directly. Or you can use a power probe if you have one of those. You need to ground the other pin using the probe attachment for the ground.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!

Bald_eagle, I just came in from the garage where I just got my window up about 15 mins ago. This was before I saw your post earlier today. I struggled with trying to activate my window motor. I even tried putting positive power to my spare motor and negative power to the motor body. Nothing! That's when I put positive to one side and negative to the other (where the wire connector plugs in) and the spare motor worked. See picture of my spare motor:

This is a spare motor that I purchased a few years ago for my 2002 WS6 Trans Am. I think all of these window motors are the same.

So here is a summary:
The window motor is not grounded to the body of the car. The window motor is grounded by one of the two wires in the 2-wire motor connector. The window switch in the center console switches ground between (for the left side) the dark blue wire and the brown wire. When you press the switch for up, the switch sends positive through the blue wire and negative through the brown wire. When you lower the window, the switch switches pos and neg. It sends pos down the brown wire and neg down the blue wire. Likewise, for the passenger side between the light blue and tan wires.

Thank you everyone for all of your suggestions and help. Hopefully in the future, this thread will help someone else.
