Lt1 Swap, Tranny, and Rear

Okay.....i have a 91 v6 rs and i was planning on selling it, since i got my z28...although i ran into an old friend that is selling his 95 z28 cause he crashed it and doesnt want it anymore. Car still runs except body is messed up. He will sell the complete car to me for 1300...my question is, Can i swap out motor trans and rear into my thirdgen....if so how much trouble and $$$ will it cost me. Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Swapping the motor and tranny isn't bad, there are a couple of good stickies that have info on this. If you put the 4th gen rear in the car, you will more than likely have to run 4th gen wheels on the car due to the length of the axle, or change the wheels out plus it would probably be good to swap the master cylinder (you may not have to). I am still running my 3rd gen rear, just put a posi unit in it or you can keep it pegleg but it will work. If the tranny is a 6-speed, the driveshaft will work without any changes. As far as money, you will have to swap the tranny crossmember, the one that alot are using is the Spohn piece and works very well.

I have 2700 in the motor/tranny/radiator and fan setup, 200 for the crossmember, 100 in the gasket set, since all LT1s seem to start leaking. then various dollars here and there for crimp butt connectors, PS lines, fuel lines. All in all I probably have about 3200 in the whole deal. As for 4th gen wheels, they won't stick out because the backspacing on them are very shallow. They will fit on the back with no problem if you swap the rear and look right, but you will end up with about 200 bucks for the 2" spacers you will have to run on the front to bring the wheels out so they won't rub. I have a friend who put a set of 17" WS6 wheels on his 91 Camaro and had to do this, but they fit right on the back because he swapped rears.

Yeah, the amount that the wheels stick out is minimal, and actually looks better IMO because they don't literally "stick out" at all, but it fills the wheel well better.

Look around at cars with 4th gen wheels, they all look nice and have a really aggressive stance, lowering helps it out even more.

If you get the whole z28 for 1300, actual swap price wouldn't be much.

gaskets and little odds and ends here and there would probably only set you back a couple hundred bucks. if you have the whole other car to pull off of, that would make your swap alot easier too, WAY less to spend.

That's a killer deal, and I would roll with it if I were you.

However, if you do run 4th gen wheels on your 3rd gen axle, you will have to get spacers to make up the difference, no way around it.

the rear is a direct bolt in swap with 2 catches.
1. you CAN bolt on 3rdgen rims, but it will be 1.5" farther out on each side. with my 16" 91 camaro rims, they dont stick out beyond the fender, but they are closer to teh edge (obviously). a non thirdgenner, even a car guy, generally wont notice.
4thgen rims bolt onto the rear and fit perfectly..... but you will need spacers for the front.

2. you need to make a mount for the ebrake cables... the ends of our cable are at the lower back of the trans tunnel.. the ends of the 4thgen cables are at the top, midway forward... you'll see what i mean when you do it, or if you do a search.

motor and trans can bolt in... "hardest" part is the wiring.. if you're good, or willing to learn, you can do it yourself for the cost of heatshrink and a solder gun.... if you dont want to try, you can buy harnesses from $250ish to 2000ish.

its not too hard, if you have the donor car, then go for it.
