From the pictures I've seen from several swaps, alot have been mounting under the hood. I think Mr_Dude1 put his in the stock location though.
depends on how you route the harness. i had a custom one made with a very long pigtail so it could go in the stock location but the computer barely fits and the original cage won't work.

I will probably do the same thing when I swap the LT1 over to the GTA, just to clean up the engine bay, but will extend the wires myself.....this way the money I save can be used on more goodies for the car for apperance.

This is for LT1.
Check out the second pic on that thread. Thats what i'm going to do. Just use some self-tapping screws, put in on the back of the firewall. Looks too difficult to try to put it in the LT1 factory location. I think it looks cleaner too. The original wires will extend there.

if it was sitting on a table, flat, with the PCM connectors to your left, and you picked up the edge facing you so it was tilted between 45 and 90*, thats how mine is. when you look at it from the passenger seat.
cables go out on the center console side (aka opposite of the door side) and out the firewall hole.
it wont fit all the way up the dash like the stocker, but its higher then the bottom of the dash, so it clears the lower cover... you cant tell its not where it "belongs"

when speartech made the harness I had them cut it to sit on the back part of the drivers side fender.. I drilled a hole and bolted a nylon luggage strap to the fender put a neoprene pad under the pcm (aka mousepad) tightened the strap down and it works and looks fine.. no problems with water or anything else..
