LS1 ride height (V6 car)

Most of you guys swap your TBI engines for the LS1 and it raises the front up a bit. I am going from a 3.1L V6 to the LS1 and I was wondering what it will do for my ride height. I searched and couldnt find this topic at all. If anyone knows how the weights of a 3.1L/700R4 compare to a LS1/T56 that would be awesome. Thanks!

Re: LS1 ride height (V6 car)

Most conversions dont really change the ride height. LS1 VS 3.1 probably equals the same weight. You could always switch to front coil overs or air ride as a last resort tho. But again, it shouldnt change.

I dont think it should change the ride height either. I would update the suspension anyways. Hopefully someday I'll be doing the same swap as you. Keep us updated.

Re: LS1 ride height (V6 car)

Kubus, Just as another comparison... Im using eibach pro-kit springs, with all of the stock isolators and what not. Came out pretty even and I was really happy with the stance. I was afraid I might need to cut the front springs or something...but I dont think the front changed any at all.

Re: LS1 ride height (V6 car)

I've already got my LS1 but havn't put it in the car yet, I have wondered this same thing because i have the 3.1/700r4 also. I plan on going with Ground Control coil-overs to hopefully counter any loss/gain in weight. Don't know how long till I swap it in, hopefully within the year but i'll post in this thread when I do. Ghettocruiser, your exhaust hangs pretty low...can't imagine it going over any speed bumbs.

Yup...thats the hawks y-pipe... All fixed now. It looks worse in the pic because im on gravel...which always makes the car seem lower. I could do speedbumps. Slowly and carefully.

kubus_stroinski: Man....I cant promise you, but I MIGHT have my stock WS6 springs laying around still. You are welcome to them free of charge. Like I said...I may have kept them. Ill check today if I remember. I MIGHT be able to bring them when I check out your car...assuming Im able to meet up with ya.

I dont think you'll have a big problem with the v6 springs. If they do make your front end lower, you can do the hose mod in the rear and get the rear to sit down a bit too. Even it out. Rear springs are really easy to pop in and out to make adjustments. Front springs are a bit of a pain...so it would be a good idea to make up your mind before you start.

I got my eibach's used from this forum. I didnt pay much for them... and if you go with them and use the stock isolators, you know how its going to stand instead of waiting to see.

Just a suggestion. Its just a pain to replace the springs later.

Re: LS1 ride height (V6 car)

Thanks a lot for the offer man. It would be awesome if you could make it down. It would be great to work with you.

Im already considerably lowered and I dont know if my car can go much lower. Thats my only concern. Hopefully its the same weight so nothing happens

Re: LS1 ride height (V6 car)

I have no idea what will happen w/ the LS1, but given the info in this thread the first thing I'd be looking into is the results of guys putting SBCs in their V6 cars with stock V6 springs. If they use regular V6 springs with no ride height difference or excessive bouncing around/bottoming out, that should tell you that you'd be fine... since the regular SBC guys are swapping LS1s with no apparent ride height/bottoming out issues. Just a thought.
