alternator hook up?
car is a 92 camaro rs that came with v8/auto. i am putting a 02 LS1 from a TA. my question is what do i do with the factory plug from the 92 alternator. it has a red wire with a brown wire in the plug. the LS1 plug just has a small red wire. my new LS1 harness is a Painless, but it dont say anything about alternator hook ups. i guess the other factory red wire still goes back on the alternator, right? i'm just not sure about the plug part. thanks

Re: alternator hook up?
The 92 plug is no longer needed. The red wire is eliminated and the brown one goes to your volt gauge. Double check that though its late and I'm bagged

Re: alternator hook up?
i've searched alot on here and ls1tech. the best i can tell, i need to do away with the red wire in the 92 plug and the brown wire i can wire it to the red wire coming out of the LS1 alternator plug with a 500 ohm resistor in line. does this sound correct? thanks.

Re: alternator hook up?
Yeah that sounds about right. If memory serves the 92 red wire loops back around to the + terminal on the back of your stock alternator to excite it which the new LS1 alt does not need. As for the brown wire I did the same hooked it up to the only wire small wire ( cant recall color off hand ) coming out of the alternator plug on the LS1 alt but I didnt put a resistor in mine... Seems to work fine though

Re: alternator hook up?
Don't mean to but in but how would I connect that to an alternator. I need to purchase a pigtail for my conversion becaue it was cutoff and I was looking to get it from EIF connections but I only see one wire. Would that one wire go to the PCM or something else? How many wires should be coming out of the alternator?

Re: alternator hook up?
In my set up I have two wires to the LS1 alternator. One pos+ from the battery to the back post on the alt simple enough. and one coming out from the plug on the LS1 alt ( cant recall color ) but it hooks to my stock third gen brown wire going into the C100 connector and it provides a feed for my volt gauge. Thats it
I used solder and heat shrink and spliced them. if you dont have the connector for your LS1 alt then you should be able to order that easy enough.

Re: alternator hook up?
I have LS1 battery cables. On these cables the big red pos+ goes to the starter. Bi-wired ( factory spliced ) right at the battery terminal is another lead I'd guess and say its was 10 or 12 gauge that goes from the battery to the post coming out of the back of the alternator. No other wire is nec from the alt to the starter.
