Re: speedo hook up question
The speedometer buffer box under the dash near the ecm has two brown wirees, one is the output to the speedometer, the other is the output from the buffer to the ecu.

Re: speedo hook up question
The connections from the VSS are tied into the PCM. There is a Speedo output wire in the LS1 harness that connects to the speedometer.

Re: speedo hook up question
Would any of you know what wire is the one that connects to the VSS sensor and which is the one that goes to the buffer box?

Re: speedo hook up question
Just hook it up to one of the two, if your speedometer doesnt work then switch it, you cant damage it since the one going to the ecu wont be connected to anything.

Re: speedo hook up question
'92 camaro eng. codes (T,F and 8) have a grey wire (pin D) @ connector C207 that goes to the IPC speedo for the 4000 Pulses per mile input
'92 camaro eng. code (E) uses a tan wire that goes right from the buffer box connector C2 pin "C" to the IPC speedo for the 4000 pulses per mile input
C207 is a 15 cavities behind RH side of I/P (near the pcm location)
the one side of the c207 connector will have two black flat connectors . the other side is white or clear and is one connector that the two fit into
hope this helps

Re: speedo hook up question
I'm not sure what the "painless harness" colored wire is but..... since you have the VIN E Eng. which ever wire they have labled for a speedo output to your speedometer connect that wire to the brown wire pin location "C" at your buffer box near your pcm (you can disconnect that wire from the buffer while you are connecting your painless wire)

Re: speedo hook up question
as another side note this way will eliminate the need for the buffer box and the factory 3rd gen cruise control. you can remove this stuff and save room. then you can run the ls1 cruise with out the need for rigging up the 3rd gen cable and cruise to fit the ls1

Re: speedo hook up question
Please ignore the other posts, he's confused, probably looking at diagrams from earlier year vehicles on the buffer box, the buffer box which is under the dash near your ecm, yellow box, got about a 6 pin connector, one will go output to the speedometer, the other outputs to the stock thirdgen ecu, so you'll have to do a guess and check, it will work one way and not hurt anything the other if it isnt hooked up right.

correct.
just make sure it is pin c
if you ever want cruise it is real simple using the ls1 setup

Re: speedo hook up question
Thats correct, however the buffer isnt just for cruise in a tbi car, the buffer is built into the 7730 ecu's but the tbi ecu didnt get it, the buffer in a tbi car directly receives the vss's signal, it doesnt go into the engine computer from the vss like on a tpi, LT1, or LSx.

Re: speedo hook up question
Like I said, the wiring colors change by year, and may even be different between camaro and firebird. Heres the same diagram with the feed to the I/P being a brown wire, go figure smart guy..
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...-permanent.gif
----------
Unplug the buffer box connector, figure out which diagram matches yours for the colors of the wires and cut the brown wires and try each if you have both brown wires, if you have a tan wire cut it and hook the vss output to it.

Re: speedo hook up question
well i found the buffer box today and pulled it down to look at the wires. i did have 2 brown wires. i cut the one that was in "c" spot and wired it to my vss output wire in my painless harness. hope this works. i should be ready to start it up in about 2 weeks. i'm doing fuel lines this week. i am thankful that 2 guys on here was going out of their way to help me. it is much appreciated.
