Re: Vette Accessories

Why do you want to go with corvette accessories? Just wondering, I might be able to talk you out of it and say you some cash.

Re: Vette Accessories

Because ive heard its a lot easier to switch over A/C with the vette routing.
I dont have fbody or vette accessories right now regardless. So i have to buy one or the other.
Would fbody be better way to go?

Re: Vette Accessories

Well, I was working on the a/c thing with LT1 caprice a/c hoses but never finished it. Someone on here claimed to make the LT1 caprice a/c lines work with the f-body accessories but never posted pics on how they bent the lines. I bought used caprice lines and the lines do have to be bent. No big deal, you use a LT1 caprice power steering line that has to be bent when you use f-body accessories.

And no one else has really shown pics of a/c working and using the f-body accessories even with using custom made a/c lines.

So, I guess I really can't talk you out of it with no proof...

However, even with vette accessories you will have to have your own lines custom made. If I could make the lt1 caprice lines work or if anyone could it would be a good thing. Cheaper and a less cluttered engine bay too. Maybe I'll work on those lines again soon...

Re: Vette Accessories

With the fbody accessories though dont you have to make clearance with the compressor?

Re: Vette Accessories

You just take a 20 oz mini sludge hammer to the k member. Just keep hitting the k member until you think you have clearance. I think it took me 10-15 minutes. You can cut and weld up the k member too, like other people have, but its not necessary. A big hammer is all you need. The k member will still be strong.

Re: Vette Accessories

Vette accessories will cost you about 2-3 times more than f-body or b-body mainly because they have the word "Corvette" on them. I've seen the bracket go for like $200 bucks on e-bay, then the a/c compressor is about the same.

Re: Vette Accessories

I tried the F body brackets. I tried adapters and special fittings and I could never get the A/C lines to my satisfaction. I swapped to Vette brackets and made some custom lines. I like it. There are pics on my cardomain site.

Re: Vette Accessories

Another quick question.
I know with fbody accessories, you have to have valve covers that allow for the alternator, or just grind on the alternator. Is this also the case with the vette accessories? Thanks!

Re: Vette Accessories

You can use whatever valve cover you want if you relocate the alternator down low like I did. I made a custom bracket for the alternator down low on the drivers side and used a pulley in place of where the alternator used to be. I did have to grind part of the alternator to get it to fit where I put it but that was easier than making the bracket.

Re: Vette Accessories

Ok, so now i am trying to figure out which set of brackets i need to get.
The major point i am looking for is the ability to keep A/C.
With the fbody brackets, firebat, you said i could pound on the k member with a sledge and create enough clearance. And that the caprice lines could be used after some bending.
The Corvette brackets, the compressor is up top and all i would need is a set of custom A/C lines.

Pretty much it all comes down to price. Like i said i can get everything i need from www.CorvetteSalvage.com for $650 plus shipping.

Do you guys think i can get the fbody stuff for cheaper than that? Keep in mind this is including the compressor, ps pump, alternator ect.

Another thing that would be nice is that with the corvette accessories i could use any valve cover i wanted without having to worry about relocating the alternator.
Anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks again,
Jake

Re: Vette Accessories

way cheaper. I don't know how much a complete f-body bracket setup with all the accessories cost. To give you maybe an idea, I've been looking for an f-body LT1 ac compressor and people have offered to sell me one for $35 shipped. I'm guessing 100-250 for all the f-body brackets and accessories.

The ultimate valve covers, canton LT1 valve covers, shouldn't give you any issues with the f-body alternator. Maybe search around on cz28.com's message boards to make sure. http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/in...OD&ProdID=1044

In the vette setup, the LT1 ac is mounted plenty out of the way of the valve covers.
