supercharged lt1?

Hey i'm newb around here, but i'm not a newb around cars. I have recently bought a 88 camaro with a 94 lt1 engine in it. The car was also converted to carb. I was just wondering, if it would be possible to put a weiland 142 supercharger on it, The kit that summit offers is pretty cheap and it would be a good bolt on. The kit also comes with it's own intake manifold. Now i'm wondering, could you use that intake manifold? Its made for use on a 350 pre85 engine.

Any help would be appreachated(sp)

Re: supercharged lt1?

Short answer - no. If I remember correctly, the LT1 heads use the same port layout as the Vortec cylinder heads, which is different from a standard small block.

I could be wrong about that though, so maybe wait for some more replies.

I know for sure though, that you would need some kind of block-off plate for the thermostat housing, as its on the waterpump on an LT1, not on the intake manifold.

Re: supercharged lt1?

No, the intake for a regular SBC won't work on an LT1.

Re: supercharged lt1?

go to cz28.com and look up Bret Bauer, he can convert gen 1 intakes to LT1s along with a few others. But like all unique conversions it costs $$$. The thing I would worry about the most is the pulley setup that would require something custom, though he would probably be able to fab that too for even more $$$.

Re: supercharged lt1?

Get yourself a vortech head unit, blow through box, and start mocking up the blower to build a bracket for it. IMO the most reasonable way you are going to get a supercharger on it with the carb.

Other option would be to get the 94-96 impala SS powerdyne setup and the vortech box or a carb hat.

Re: supercharged lt1?

Or put it back to FI and buy a supercharger for it that won't take alot of custom stuff on it.
