Coolant/Heater Hoses on a 3rd Gen LS1 swap

Maybe I am just overwhelmed with my LS1 swap, but I know where and how the radiator hose hook up, but what about the heater hose? There are two small hose outlets by the water pump, which one goes where on the heater core? Or does it matter? Also, the was a small coolant hose going to a metal tube on the left side frame rail, what is that tube for, and what hooks up to it?

easy way

hook both tubes from the water pump to the heater core, it will flow all the time.. you can use the metal pipe but you will have to cap the vertiacal port on the pipe


if you use the divertor

take the tube going from the metal pipe to the rad cut it and put it to the closest pipe to the front on the water pump (right lookin at it)

take the tube that goes vertical and plug it into the big port on the divertor

get a new hose for the furtherst port on the water pump (left lookin at it) and put it to the single port on the divertor

a final hose will go from heater core left side port to the last port on the divertor

get a convertor from the large hole left in the rad to a small bung and hook that up to the cooling crossover under the throttle body

Theres two plug's on the end of the waterpump that run to the heater.

I ended up running the hose, with the valve just like on the TPI engine. I enjoy being able to completely shut off my heater, or on those chilly days having a little heat, kind of like climate control.

Ill be plumbing in a valve on my 86 this time around. I found that the A/C wouldnt get near as cold as it should, and I think its because of the fact that hot coolant is pumping into the core constantly, and Im pretty sure the air is getting warmed up by it on its way into the cabin. Im also going to insulate my HVAC box better from the headers...But the valve should help.

Not sure what valve Im going to use yet...Maybe the stock f-body one, but I gotta play around with them some. I have access to autozone's and advance auto stock shevles, so Im going to start pulling random ones and looking them over until I find the one that works best for me. Im sure Ill post up with which one I use. I want to find one that I can mount on the fenderwell...just to keep things tight and clean.

Did you guys ever get this working? Do you have any pics? I want to be able to fit the valve as our summers get pretty hot here in Australia but I still need a heater for our winter

My heater works the way it should using the stock vacuum valve in the engine bay, can take pics if needed.
