Manual tranny noob quandry
Okay, I have zip exposure to manual tranny 3rd gens. I assumed from the results of my searches that the boot plate simply fit where the auto plate was. I bought a boot/plate from a TGO classified, but it's too wide and too long to fit in my console.
Did they change sometime during the years? The '82 and '86 consoles I had were identical, but all auto trans. Does manual require a different top to the basic console?
(Skulte threw in a 6-speed shift pattern overlay after it took so long to get the crossmember from him - nice customer relations touch.)

The consoles should be the same size and shape in every year Camaro.

What does your dash look like ?
Typically all consoles have interchangable shifter plates for the camaro, however there is a dash i've seen a few times at the junkyards which I believe it used digital gauges, has a weird console, and "Camaro" is embedded into the plastic on the passenger side lower edge. Maybe this is what you have ?

That's the Berlinetta interior. I believe it still uses the same lower console.

It looks like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CAMAR...em320222855260 , except it has 3 switches for power windows and trunk release.
The '82 Berlinetta didn't have the digital stuff. The '86 Sports Coupe donor car had the exact same console, console upper, and shifter plate, even though the '82's were 3-speed auto and the '86 was 4-speed auto.
I'll try to get photos of it all later today.

Looks the same to me. Mine was rather tight to get in there I definitely had to wiggle and squeeze things a bit but once the leather was past it sat down nicely. I too went from auto to manual using same console. 87 Iroc though it does look the same to me as those pics. Maybe the boot you have is incorrect?

Okay, what we're dealing with. First, this plate/boot has the cigarette lighter in with the ashtray, mine is up on the dash. Second, you can see it's longer than the opening.

Third, the stuff sticking down is wider than the opening in the console.

Weird... I've never seen a shifter plate like that in a Camaro but it doesn't really look like a T/A piece either. Its definitely an oddball man. My 5spd plate looks EXACTLY like the pic of your auto plate except of course that there is a boot in there instead.
Geez man thats another zinger
***edit*** Actually... I think its a 91-92 style arent they different?

Thats an early 82-84 firebird shifter plate, and iirc if its not cracked its worth a decent little chunk.
Just get yourself an actual camaro shift plate and you'll be set.

There's a little hole in the front of the boot, so other than that and having a strong stale cigarette smell to it, it's in good shape.
I thought I told the seller I had an '82 Camaro, maybe I didn't.
I found one on eBay that looks right, guess I'll try to snag that one.

Missed that one, but found a better one.
Would be nice to have confirmation about the one I already have - so I could describe it when I list it.
