New motor 6.0 ls1 going in... with pics...

Well alot of you might remember that i was building a 408 ls1 with a huge gt47-88mm turbo, well i got in really over my head and had everything i needed to build it but had no money left over for a cage or any safety equiptment for a 1300hp car. Well i sold off everything and picked up a 6.0l iron truck block and some 243 ls6 heads that i did a little porting to. Just going to run a single plane with 4 barrel tb as well. Has a decent sized cam in it for and ls1, little small for the 6.0l but i had it laying around. Also had some arp head studs, ati balancer and tci flexplate that i am using rather than selling. Had some shaft mount rockers that i was trying to sell but i wasnt going to get what i needed for them so i decided to use them lol. I know the rockers are worth more than the motor alone lol.

i am installing the motor later today and just waiting the headers i ordered and going to redo the fuel lines. the motor will still run on e85 so i can run slightly more timing. would have loved to have increased compression but i wanted to do it on a budget. I decided to paint it chevy orange as well. Ill update more later.

Pics.....

Old pics of the cam only ls1 setup that i went 10.7's in

Let me know what you guys think...

I knew i would get at least 1 comment, its adjustable and very soft on both ends, perfect for holding up my fiberglass hood. I dont think it would go over that well in a car show tho

Buddy of mine running basically the same setup in his '94 T/A fully fuel injected, but he's not going to raise the price of food to run it on E85, pure 110 here.

little vid of it running

do not get me started on how the price of corn does very little to effect the price of food. Since 2000 the price of a box of cereal has gone up 6 CENTS due to the increase in corn prices. The rest is wages, distribution, and marketing<including the box

And the increase in the cost of fuel to deliver the corn to Kellogg and the corn flakes to the grocery store. . .

The #1 use of corn in this country is to make high fructose corn syrup - sugar. If that's your concept of "food", the real problem should be very clear.

When I was in college in the mid-80's, the University of Nebraska had an energy self-sufficient farm operation going. They made ethanol from a sweet sorghum that could be squeezed to extract the sugar right in the field. Methane from the hog operation provided the heat for distilling. If this country had been implementing this simple technology instead of paying tobacco subsidies and paying other "farmers" (corporations, actually) to keep land out of production, this conversation wouldn't be taking place right now. We've wasted over 20 years of development in the meantime.

And we all know the "food problem" Brazil has been experiencing in that same time period while using ethanol to fuel their transportation. . .

Re: New motor 6.0 ls1 going in... with pics...

Alright well time for a little update, It been moving along slowly since i am in summer school so i only work on it on the weekends and when i am not drinking, sooo thats not often lol. Also doesnt help that speed inc took over a month to get me my head gaskets($180 and a month to get is ridiculous).

Since then i have torqued the heads on, re assembled all the rocker stands and set the valve lash. I have also re done the entire engine harness since i will not be running knock sensors, maf sensor, o2's ect since its a full speed density tune.

I am also relocating the coil packs inside the car. I will get them done once i have the headers in.

I am still deciding on what to do for headers, i used to have the stainless works and they were nice. Now i am looking for at least 1 7/8 primary and at least 3" collectors so i might mod a set of bbc headers. I can get some local for $150 basically new so i might try that first.

I also had a really nice 4" air filter on it but it wouldnt clear my hood so i went to this 2.5" one.

Here are some pics...

The intake setup is just the edelbrock efi vic jr. for and ls1. It comes with the fuel rails. The throttle body is a holley 4 barrel tb. Accufab also makes a nice 4 barrel tb. Intake and rails new is $410, used around $300. Tb new is around $500, used $300.

Now in order to do this setup, you have to have it tuned for open loop speed density. Which is preferred for any performance based cars but would not be good in a daily driver or of that nature.

Nice looking setup you have there.

The water pump you are using... it doesn't look like it has the built-in thermostat. I assume this is a drag only setup that won't have one?

Yea exactly, there is no thermostat, the past 2 electric pumps i have run, one sbc, one ls1 neither had thermostats and ran them both on the street quite a bit with no problems.
