LT1 HELP PLEASE!

I Have done a 95 LT1 swap into a 89 camaro v6 the problem im having is the engine runs fine after you use starting fluid to start it after that it will run all day till you turn it off then you must use the fluid to start it againe. Also if you choke it out by placing your hand over the intake while it is running to kill it you can start it without the fluid as well any information will help please im moving in 8 days and they wont ship the car off the island without it starting regularly. thanks

Re: LT1 HELP PLEASE!

Have you checked the fuel pressure the first time you try to start it? Are you still using the original fuel pump?

No not yet all my tools are packed up headin to the mainland. Could it be the pump even though it runs fine afterwords. It is still the same pump but the V6 was fuel injected I guess ill try to find a place to rent tools. thank you!

Re: LT1 HELP PLEASE!

It sounds to me like the fuel pump relay isn't getting the signal to turn the fuel pump on. Do you hear the fuel pump turn on when you put the key in the run position?

Are you using the 3rd gen fuel pump relay or the relay from the LT1 car?

If you're using the LT1 fuel pump relay, I think your problem is somewhere in the grey (signal from oil pressure switch) or green (signal from PCM) wires.
I can't remember all the details, but I know that the FP relay gets a signal from the oil pressure switch that can also allow it to turn the fuel pump on (grey wire). When you use the starter fluid, that may allow the engine to run long enough to trigger the oil pressure switch (because oil is now pumping) and signal the fuel pump relay to send power to the fuel pump.

the fuel pump definatly is on I can hear the pump and feel the fuel going through the lines and it stays on during cranking it just seems like the injectors arent turning on or something but theyre getting power during startup so is the pc.

Re: LT1 HELP PLEASE!

Klortho might be on the right track then... i believe he was thinking the original v6 fuel pump doesn't deliver enough fuel pressure. I believe the correct pressure is around 42PSI

Re: LT1 HELP PLEASE!

I would check the pressure with a guage first before installing an inline pump. They don't cost very much and it's better to be sure you diagnosed the problem before installing new parts.
