needing some lt1 swap info
needing some lt1 swap info
well i think im about done playin with the 305 and i think im gonna do a lt1 swap ,i was just wondering if my 700r4 would work with the lt1 setup?where could i find a complete lt1 swap for a decent price?and is this a pretty easy swap to do or will i have to have some tuning done if i swap directly from an lt1 car to my thirdgen?any insight would be appreciated, thanks, joe

The 93 LT1s used a 700r4, so you can use a throttle body from one of those cars to utilize the TV cable along with the LT1 throttle cable. Then again, you might be able to continue using your existing aftermarket throttle body and throttle cable. Maybe someone else can chime in on that one.
As for tuning, it all depends on what you do or don't swap over. If you don't keep the vats system intact by utilizing all the associated electronics from the donor car and swap the lock cylinder over, you will need to "tune out" the vats system. Overall, be prepared for A LOT of wiring! I learned a lot about the electrical systems doing my swap. If you want to do it, do lots of reading on here and look for wiring diagrams that are specific to your year car and go to shbox.com for wiring diagrams specific to the year of your donor car. I do suggest getting a donor car that's wrecked so you know you get everything you could possibly need from it. I did that and held on to everything related to the wiring of the car. While it isn't strictly required, for the purposes of making the wiring extra clean, I recommend keeping the interior dash wiring harness!

I found mine locally on a local f-body site. If you have one of those, use it. If not, look at sites like camaroz28.com.

I run an 88 700 against my 93 LT1. I use the 86 style throttle body for my linkage, and "customised" the LT1 braket for my TPI TV cable.
The 4L60e will cost you money for a controller, or you have to run the factory computer. I run a gen6 DFI that controls the TC lockup, or you could just use a switch. Also, is your speedo electronic or cable? Just more to mess with.
A built 4L60e is only marginally srtonger at best that a built 700. Only benefit is increased line pressures at low rpm/load for forced induction b/c no TV cable.
