How come your looking for firebird door panels? From what i can tell, your current ones look good. And i too would love to see how that diffuser was made. Adds something to the car from the rear.

I like the look of the diffuser, what is the point of it though? Just wondering.

Re: my LSx 87 IROC build

They're put on high end Performance cars and race cars to keep the rear end stable at high speeds. I'm not sure how much need there is for one on a daily driver like his car, but it looks awesome so who cares if it does anything beneficial?

Your rear spoiler looks like it could use some aligning from that rear pic. Lookin' good though. When did you get new wheels?

my buddy is giving me a set of trans am door panels. i like them a bit better. the camaro ones were more to test fit the 4th gen panels. i have to do a bit more cutting . but from what i was researching the trans am one seem to be easier to fit .

cali has the best weather. i fell in love with this blue.. a bit brighter than my old color.. this one has a pearl tone to it as well. i went over the car with a the porter cable a quick polish and wax and the paint looks a lot better. the wheels may not be everyones taste but i think they go fine for now.. in the future id like to get some machined faced hres or so . ! pricey though

yeah i have seen them also not sure but i believe they are a abit longer. top to bottom.. anyone can confirm this?
emblem pros notified me that with the right dimensions he can do something for me..

yeah it does it actually need to be shifted over a bit to the drivers side. i noticed a few mm makes a big difference. my hatch motor sucks i need to replace it to align the hatch properly.

my cousin west sanded the taillights.. mixed up some clear with a hint of black and sprayed them . i am debating weather i should paint the reverse light section red as well. i would love to do a sequential taillight kit..

Is there any chance you could get some better photos of the diffuser, like with the sun shining on the rear of the car, or maybe throw some lights on the ground behind it so we can see it better? I've got an idea...

I will be recreating this when my new exhaus tips go on. I'm looking at oval or gibson sport tips. Id like some gmmg with a rolled tip. Idk. I plan to wrap the fins with carbon fiber wrap. Will post pics once I get a photoshoot

Cool I'd appreciate it. What did you make it out of in the first place anyways? And is it bolted together of welded together?

Re: my LSx 87 IROC build

i have a few questions. i have a leak on my oil pan . with everything out of place would i be able to slide the oil pan out through the back? or will the windage tray/ pick up not allow me to pull it out?

if i cant im thinking of doing the rear main seal. whats the easiest process of doing so ?
pulling out the rear cover new gasket for the cover and rear seal *gm products?

i remember having diagnostic code with a leak . iirc

i think you might have to lift the motor up a bit to pull the pan. i believe it hits the pick up tube.

sorry no too many pics on the diffuser. when i have time im going to redo it i will post pics though.

for the exhaust yea its going to get cut/modded in order to fit. the exhaust i cut off the car ran around the transmission k member. it was a temporary exhaust.this is exhaust is all clamp on and looks like adjustments wont be too hard.

I fixed the leaky pan gasket on my car with the motor still in it. I pulled the trans and loosened all the pan bolts and it will drop down about a 1/2-3/4 of an inch. Since your going to be doing the clutch and will have the trans out anyway its pretty easy. But there is no removing the oil pan or changing the pan gasket with the motor intact.

But like I said I just let my pan down a hair and put rtv on the gasket and problem solved. But yes very easy process.

Re: my LSx 87 IROC build

cool as for the oil pan gasket i might hold off on it.
might just be my rear main seal. when i first did the swap i don't think i put any silicon on the end were the oil pan and rear cover meet when i did the rear main seal

i do have a hairline crack in the front that has a temp fix with aluminum epoxy. it has been holding pretty good. im looking at ghettocruiser thread and he used a tool that holds the engine in place while beign able to drop the k member.
i am thinking of doing this during summer. notching the k member for better clearance and painting it.

thanks looks like this might work!

grease, soap or even wet tissue paper wads and a close fitting dowel will get that out in no time without the risk of a tool breaking off

I found it a week after destroying the old bearing to put in the new one, so I can't say from personal experience that it works.

Correct. There is a "freeze plug" type stamped plug in the back of the LSx crank, which is not held in better than the pilot bearing/bushing.

Re: my LSx 87 IROC build

few updates. updated pics and info dual over the axle 2.5 all stainless steel set up. it is still a 2 1.4 piping up front up to the x pipe merge that turns into a 2.5. *temporary set up until i decide to do ssw headers.

i have a ses code that hasnt gone away for a while. code p0300 . random misfire which i cant find the problem. car runs normal. any suggestions?

car sounds great and i will be posting sound clip soon.

i found some very cool custom exhaust tips on a vette forum. i dont have much info on the tips but by the looks of the welds from the rear looks like someone built them for a c5 or c6

i have about 150 miles on the monster clutch . chattering was pretty annoying at first but after the 50 miles it decreased. but the clutch feels great overall!
i had issues do to my pilot bearing but it seems like i can go through all gears once again. im waiting for the 500 mile break in and ill put the car to the test against a local ls2 gto in town and a fully built tpi that has been impatiently waiting for a run

also installed some h3 8k hids for my fogs

to do list:
new a/c compressor and condenser
notch k member rear portion & new oil pan
warranty koni & realignment
ssw headers
sfcs
tires!!
thinking of doing a cam swap !

few more pics of the rear air diffuser dimensions are now 20" x app23" long

Re: my LSx 87 IROC build

I'm using GM Synchromesh fluid in my MN12, Pennzoil Synchromesh is just as good but cheaper.

Re: my LSx 87 IROC build

I've been wondering too. I just looked in the '06 GTO Helms and Dexron III is the specified lubricant. Why exclude Mobil 1?

Re: my LSx 87 IROC build

I've been using AutoZone brand dextron III. I don't see what the issue is with using cheaper stuff, it's made to be a direct replacement?

I love the post about the photo of the back of your camshaft, aimed at the So-Cal TPI guys.

Re: my LSx 87 IROC build

Yeah I ended up using some valvoline dex3. The original mobil 1 ATF wasn't available I didn't want to pay the gm price either lol they said to becareful and not to get confused with dex vi
