My 1988 Vert LS1 swap
My 1988 Vert LS1 swap
Well it has begun. Doing what is best for the car IMO. Going with a 2001 WS6 LS1/6 speed combo
going in my 1988 Iroc convertible. Also swapping in an interior from a 2000 Trans AM just to clean it up a bit.
Heres the pics of the progress and let this thread be my introduction as well considering I have 1 post on here LOL

Wow... That is one sweet looking vert!!!! Looks like another car to add to my "jealous of how much better the swap is going to turn out" list...hehe.
Good luck with it and for goodness sakes...keep those pictures coming! Im anxious to see how that interior looks when you get it together. I still think if I had a 4th gen TA for my donor car instead of the camaro I would have done the full dash/door panel upgrade while I was at it...

Sweet! I love convertible thirdgens... And I love Ls1's. I would love to pick up a nice convertible thirdgen in the future. They looks like soooo much fun in the summer. Progress looks great so far!

bolts right in
as a safety in this vehicles however the steering shaft slides about 8 to 10 inches into itself in case of a front impact. Right now I have it slid almost the whole way down. It'll work for now but I will be shortening the steering shaft to keep this safety feature.

Re: My 1988 Vert LS1 swap
Other then the safety feature and steering wheel controls, what is the advantage of the 4th gen column??
Personally, the safety feature doesnt mean much, but i do have a 4th gen console here. Being that its a pontiac one, its not much good to me in my camaro, but if theres a significant advantage, ive got a 4th gen camaro wheel in ym car now that i can transfer

Re: My 1988 Vert LS1 swap
Thirdgens had this "safety feature" also. But it was built into the intermediate shaft out in the engine bay.
The problem I had with the 4th gen column was there was slight difference in electrical connections, but that didnt deter me. Connecting the column to the steering box stopped me. There were wasy to make it work, but I didnt want to go through with it. There are threads on using the 4th gen column and the intermediate shaft as well....
Inside, the columns are pretty much identical though. I still have a 4th gen column sitting around...just in case. But I doubt Ill ever use it.
Car is looking good! Keep the pics comin!

Awesome looking swap. Looking at your pictures is making me very anxious! My hold-up right now is getting the block built the way I want it the first go-around.
Re: My 1988 Vert LS1 swap
heres a couple more pictures. Car is nearing completion. Just a couple more things under the hood and interior and it will be almost complete.
I also ran the car down the 1/4 mile and got a best of 12.42 @ 111 MPH

SCHWEEEEEEEEEEET!!
I dig it man. That TPI air intake is killing you though. I bet theres a tenth or two just by ditching that restriction. Looks cool though and 12.4 is booking along damn fine.

Also, I haven't had the chance to change the programming from (4) O2 sensors to (2) and I only have 1 hooked up because the other 1 decided to melt the wiring on the exhaust

Plus some headers and tune are in the near future which would definitely help with some power increase

YEah your in for a big jump in power with those mods. LS1's Looooooove longtubes so bank on 30 ponies or so there plus another 10-20 with the tune and? with the intake.
11.x will be a breeze

Ohhhhh yeah...! I'd think that a well-flowing intake tract, a good tune for the (properly-functioning) O2s & headers would put you solidly in the 11s...

Yeah add decent heads to that formula and 10's are very reachable. I'm liking the TFS heads these days. Pricey but not the priciest and a lot of fast fast LS guys seem to run them.
