Mike,
when you get a chance, could you post a pic: side view showing space between sump and k-member.
Thanks, Phil

Mike-
Goood. Opens up some space, doesn't it?
How far from the sump, to the K-member?
F-car sump?
My nose is twitching.... I'll get to my swap soon......
Thanks again.

Formula GPs????
And I thought I was the last of the Mohicans ;-)
My rears went out a few years ago. You should have heard Monroe when I tried to collect on my lifetime guarantee......
Bilsteins in the back now... and one of the struts has a spot...they wil be replaced.... guess you will be the last then.

Re: 89 gta ls1 t56 swap!
Mike-
You can have my good one, when I take them off, if you like.
I hope that will be later this year.
I've got miles and miles on mine. They were fine until going. The "spot" in the front does not bother everyday driving; just when you get some knots on the clock.

Personally, I'm going to dive in & do it myself - not because I'm any kind of expert (ha!), but just because when something goes wrong, then I'll know more about it than if I'd sent it off... One tip that I've read is to create a spreadsheet that lists the different circuits, that way you can match the old to the new in the spreadsheet before you ever trim a wire.
Good luck, & keep the pics coming!
Re: 89 gta ls1 t56 swap!
good advice on the spreadsheet i guess ill lay both harnessess out and lable and create a spreadsheet and start eliminating useless wires first egr etc and go from there!

Mike, did you get the hole drilled and get the wires in yet,or is that what you mean by"got the ecm inside passenger compartment"?wherever you`re at I`ll be off thursday and can give you a hand if you`re not busy.I know you`re as ready to get yours finished as I am to get my intake finished

Re: 89 gta ls1 t56 swap!
What route do you plan on taking with the fuel system? do you plan on keeping the stock tank? or putting the LS1 tank in?
Re: 89 gta ls1 t56 swap!
Definately keeping the ac for the fuel system i am using stock 3rd gen tank w 255lph pump deleted evap canister line and running vented tank cap. I am running the corvette filter/regulator with 6an line and adapters ill have pics soon. guys most of this info can be found following pockets swap. ps he did my wiring harness which so far has been a breeze and pleasure to use . cant say enough about his work and service ; definately reccomend him thanks .

Chain of events
Power dist block/fusible link
IGN switch
Starter relay
P/neutral switch or clutch switch
Starter
Find where you have 12v last in the system and bridge the rest

Re: 89 gta ls1 t56 swap!
alright got voltage through the neutral safety switch nothing that leads to the purple wire that goes to te starter is this vats supposedly deleted?
Re: 89 gta ls1 t56 swap!
VATS controls the starter relay. If you've got 12v past it, then VATS isnt your issue
Do a final test of 12v on the purple wire in the engine bay. It sounds like you've got a bad starter

Re: 89 gta ls1 t56 swap!
Did you do anything with the car's VATS? the starter enable relay is behind the driver's side kick panel, did you ground that relay or connect the two thick wires together? I know if you're getting voltage at the clutch switch then VATS wouldn't be an issue but i'm still curious with what you did to bypass that relay.

Re: 89 gta ls1 t56 swap!
Took a screwdriver to the bat cable on the starter and touched the 12 volt switch terminal of the starter. yes i know a little ******* but worked like a dream lol
Re: 89 gta ls1 t56 swap!
quick update simply found a pigtail for the clutch switch cut and spliced the green and purple wires and relocated to the switch and BINGO!! just like pocket suggested . dude u are a tremendous contributor to this community and thanks!!
Re: 89 gta ls1 t56 swap!
ok been a long time;got the engine fired but wasnt running correctly had fuel pressure issue. I had other projects to get to for my daughter and family .I just recently returned to the car dropped the tank and discovered the connection rubber hose had jellied and seperated causing my lack of fuel pressure she now runs great .! i am on to intake tube fabbing and xhaust!!

Cool - looks like your day & mine
litlle progress mounting everything up and then will route wiring slooow
