Thread sizes/types for various parts...

Anyone know how to determine which AN fittings, or fasteners are used in various areas of the engine...

for example the steam pipe holes on the back of the heads? What thread are they? Or what sizes are the threaded fittings on the thirdgen power steering gear? - I plan to run stainless braided lines or XRP's power steering hose and fittings connected to AN fittings.

I do not know of any way to tell these threads without making a million trips to the hardware or autoparts store or just buying every fastener out there and trying them all... The helm shop manuals for these cars dont even give this info?

This is making it nearly impossible and just about not worth the time to figure out what size threads everything is to make AN fittings work...

ANyone got ideas, what did you guys do for your custom stuff?

Re: Thread sizes/types for various parts...

No, I plan to run a custom setup with AN fittings and braided hose but in order to do that I am looking for a way to determine what thread/size are the holes for the steam pipe...

And also a way to determine thread/size for the holes for the power steering lines at the power steering gear/ PS pump, and a variety of other places where I want to run threaded fittings/AN connectors and braided lines or hoses.

The only way I see right now is to buy a bunch of cheap bolts and test fit them everywhere to determine the sizes/threads but that is wayy too time consuming and waste of money (could always return the bolts but again time consuming). I am looking for ways around this otherwise I am going to have a looooong day of test fitting but will end up with an incredibly useful list that I am sure everyone will want

I would buy a set of thread checkers.. basically a bunch of nuts and bolts on a rope.

http://www.swmanufacturing.com/parts....asp?TYP_ID=38

It will be the easiest way.. and pretty handy to have on a mutt metric/inch car like ours.

Exactly what I needed! Now hopefully this doesnt cost more than a bunch of bolts from Ace Hardware... those are cheap and probably easier to get than paying for shipping on this.

ANyone see one of these at a local store?
