Starter interference
I have a 99 LS1 block that I just mounted an LS1 T56 trans to. I couldn't get the last 1/2" because of the starter. I took it off and it's now bolted up fine.
I know you sometimes have to shim the starter, but it looks like I will need to move it down a good 3/8".. not a couple of thousandths.
Here is a pic of the starter in question. Is this the right one and does anyone have some input?

Re: Starter interference
That doesn't look like my starter IIRC... Mine has one long and one short bolt does that one? That one looks like it takes two long bolts. Not sure what else to tell ya

Mine is long for the outside and short for the inside bolt (2000 LS1/T56).
I wonder if that's an automatic tranny starter.

Re: Starter interference
Do they have different starters auto/manual? I'm using a manual? (one short bolt one long) starter on my 700r4 build...but I haven't started it so who knows.

A Vette or truck starter, perhaps?
I have no idea, I'm just guessing on possibilities.
Where did you get the starter?

Re: Starter interference
I was able to figure out the p/n on the starter. It turns out it's an LS2/3/7 version.
For some poor bastard not to make the same mistake I did, here is the info I got on the starter;
The GTO (LS2 - 2005-06) did get its own starter. PN 92169668 from Mitsubishi.
2006-2007 LS2 - Y car
2006-2009 LS7 - Y car
2008-2009 LS3 - Y car
All of these use the same starter. GM PN 89017847 or AC Delco 323-1640
