{Moved to the LTX and LSX swap subforum}

You might want to get the throttle cable out of the donor car if possible.

If you keep AC, the K-member will have to be notched in order for the compressor to clear. You can relocate the '92 compressor with special brackets, but it's a pain and tends to be expensive. Putting all the '92 accessories on the LT1 really isn't an option.

Finding a place to mount the PCM (powertrain control module - not called ECU or ECM starting with 4th gens) is a challenge.

This is all documented in the LT1 swap sticky in the top section of this forum.

Re: swappin my 305 for 97 lt1

talked to my uncle tonight who restores old chevy muscle mainly from the 60s era.. he recently put an lt1 engine from a 96 into a 68 rs for a guy just in the past month.. used the engine tranny outa the 96 only thing he had a problem with was fuel pressure had to get a fuel pump.. i think that is about the only thing i didn't buy off the guy.. ;-( so i will keep the thread active and informed as to what happens..

Re: swappin my 305 for 97 lt1

hey good luck with the swap! Are you doing anything to the motor while its out? and like those guys said you just check out through forum for other peoples swaps to get ideas of what you would want to do.

I used a 92 camaro throttle cable and it fits/works fine in my car. Since your car was EFI before this swap I don't see you needing to get anything for fuel pressure like i did ( my car was a carb before the swap) so I had to put an internal fuel pump and change out my sending unit. Really getting the engine in is fairly easy, hooking things up and finding spots to place stuff like your PS res. and PCM will be a little tricky... and the coolant hoses your going to need to connect to your third gen rad are 94 Camaro Upper hose, and 92 vette lower hose. The wiring was the only thing that really gave me trouble, its just a pain in the *** haha. But with the right help I'm sure you'll do fine! Good luck, any questions ask and I'll be happy to help you if I can.

A stock TBI fuel pump won't properly feed an LT1.

Re: swappin my 305 for 97 lt1

ok picked up the engine and tranny today.. guy broke the air flow arm on it so i have to redo the intake is the KN intake worth the price or should i just go back to a stock assembly.. Also he kept alot of stuff that i thought we had agreed i got with the engine he kept starter ignition and pretty much all the accesories for his ws6 project he is working on.. including the high performance headers.. so suggestions on recomeneded parts and what won't go from my 305 to the new egine are greatly appreciated i am not a mechanic i pretty much buy and let other pple do the work so plse don't get too technical for me.. I have been argued with and people are trying to bully me into carbing the engine when we drop it in? is this even worth it? i have all the wiring and the comp box and such.. I got the engine mainly just the block and the AT tranny outa the trans am for a thousand bucks so i am well ahead of the game just not sure what more i will need.. got my fuel pump too.. i know i needed a new one of those.. anyway guys wish me luck we are gonna take detailed pics by step and catalog it cause this car will be a show car hopefully in 3yrs that is my goal from start to finish.. Wish me luck and detailed list and ideas are always a plus i love this gen car so much i love reading everything you guys have done and lookin at the pics even if i don't understand 90%.. i got enthusiasim though..

Re: swappin my 305 for 97 lt1

this is the new engine i have all of 500dollas in and my RS which i paid 1200 for so far i think i have one heck of a start.. i have looked and looked so far are hawks headers the only ones we can use for the swap that does not require some welding or cutting work? i don't have anyone that can do that for me at the moment is why i ask.. i have read thread after thread and it seems most pple either make thier own or use these.. at 800 dollas i will have more in them then the block.. we should be pullin the 305 this weekend and soon as i decide on what air intake set up thinkin K@N and what headers then the real work begins...

You can use any 3rd gen V8 headers that cover the ports. Being D-ports, 1-3/4" primaries do the job best. The bad news there is SLP no longer offers theirs. TGO member Dyno Don offers custom built 1-3/4" shorties w/y-pipe (PM him for details - he doesn't advertise). Hooker 2210's work, but they are long tubes and kill ground clearance.

I believe Hedman makes a D-port header, but not sure it's for 3rd gen chassis.

Or, get something like Hooker 2055HKRs, weld around the outside of the primary tube on the outside of the flange, and port match them to the heads.

Most can get by with the 1 5/8 and you can get the matching y pipe with it.

setback.. sadly we were supposed to start today but i couldn't get my Rs to turn over the 305 has finally died we are afraid after changing battery plug wires and piddling with half a dozen other solutions we could think of we gave up.. just would not turn over no matter what we tried igniton and starter were trying but alas to no avail so next weekend trailering it to the garage to begin the long awaited overhaul and upgrade.. ;-(

Re: swappin my 305 for 97 lt1

after two years 3 mechanics and a few layoffs and medical issues settin me back in money i think my baby will be on the road in a few days.. we ended up carbing the enigine with an edlebrock 4 barrel and a few other things to make it a nice simple turnkey swap so that if i ever want to make it original again it will be easy to just drop another 305 back in it.. the engine is currently on a stand and ran about 430 hp this is the third guy that offered to buy it off me.. LoL we redid the cam and a few other small things to give it more power.. I truly can't wait to get my car back been way too long the new pics will be coming shortly.. I hOpe...
