Removing and Installing Motor Mounts

I am puzzled as to how I am supposed to remove my old motor mounts from my K-Member let alone put on the LS1 style horseshoe mounts. My problem is that the nuts on the back / inside of the k-member are just spinning. I don't see how it is possible to get a wrench on the back side of those nuts. Any idea's?

I did mine with the suspension removed, was a piece of cake. i know it can be done on the car, but its a bit more work to try to get in there.

I just replaced my motor mounts today (motor not in car)! It can be done w/ the suspension and control arms in place. This is for V8 mounts. I haven't done V6 mounts so I don't know if it is different. Slide a 15mm wrench through the hole in the back side of the k-member to remove the top bolts and nuts. You can reach the lower bolt and nut w/ a short 15mm socket, extension, and universal/flex adapter. To put the bolts/nuts back on, get a extendable magnet and fish the nut w/ washer in the k-member. Turn the bolt by hand while holding the nut and washer w/ the magnet. It can be tricky, but it is possible.

Agreed. What I did was to securely tape one open-end wrench to another, which (effectively) made a longer wrench. It was a PITA, but I was able to get all three nuts on each side. (All of my suspension was still attached as well.)

Then, when putting the nuts back on, I'd put a piece of tape over one side of the wrench (I think I used the box end this time) so that the nut would stay *somewhat* attached to the wrench, which allowed me to get the bolt threaded into the nut - and once it was tightened, I could pull the wrench away & move on to the next one.

Hope this helps.

Tape works too. I used a magnet so that I could hold the washer and nut together while trying to thread the bolt to the nut.

Yeah, its all good until you drop the washers down the k-member and have to fish them out with a magnet! PITA haha, good luck.

Awesome, worked like a charm. They actually came out quite easily, though I had a guy on the other side loosening while I held the nuts with the socket. Thanks again for the help guys.

My stock mounts had copper washers for whatever reason so that probably wouldn't work for me, though I didn't drop any anyways.
