Hi all figured id drop in to the site and tell me tale of a weekend of work on LT1 swap.

I found a tough call on the powersteering and decided to try OEM parts. I found that a 95 implala ss steering pump and hose is a DIRECT FIT for our thirdgens!

no costly custom parts needed....the lt1 is looking more bolt in than ever

The "HARD" part was making the low pressure hose which consisted of a chunk of left over rubberhose(i didnt measure how long). It just slips on and clamped on

i tried seaching and didnt find anything relating to this so if the info is out ther already im sorry

 

I have the 95 Caprice LT1 hose and it wasn't that easy to install. I had to really bend mine in several spots to get mine installed. According to Autozone its supposed to be the exact same part number as the 95 Impala SS hose.

Where did you buy the hose from? Got pics of the impala hose installed?

 

it's been a while now since I installed my LT1, but I don't recall having too much trouble using the 95 Z28's high pressure line in my 3rd gen. I think I bought new straight hose off a reel from a parts store for the low pressure side.

 

You mention an Impala SS steering pump; so you have to use an Impala/Caprice accessory bracket? The Fbody LT1 accessory is different.

 

this is true....the pump is different where the line comes out....im sorry i neglected to mention i have a B-body accessory setup

 

I have to say, I have a B-body LT1 using B-body accessories, and I bought a new 95 Impala SS high pressure line and it did NOT fit at all. I had to do some serious re-bending of the line. And I've got a NASTY leak at the steering box, its coming up where the fitting meets the hard line. So its obviously not sealing down there. I'll have to pull it out when I get some new o-rings (not sure what size they need to be, I used the ones that came with the line.).

In fact, in bending the line to fit I compressed a portion of the line so I need ANOTHER line. But I wanna make sure this line will actually seal before i buy yet another line.

I am considering having a hose shop make me a new custom line. I just need to figure out which fittings I need to use.

 

I used f body accessories and the fbody lines rebent fit just fine

 

Good to hear. I'll try this since I already have the fbody pump and line.

 

Just go slow when you bend them and be sure not to crimp them
