Need help with daily

Hey guys I just got a 1994 z28 camaro LT1 M6..i love the car its great and has lots of power but something is wrong with the tranny. At a stop or rolling i cant put first or second I have to either slam it in(which i dont beacuase it sounds bad) or i throw fourth then thrwo first quick. Also when rolling it scratches second a bit. Now I believe it is not the trannt because once first is in and at a stop i can go through all gears fine and when rolling about to throw second i kick the clutch in hard and second gear scratches less. The guy i got it from said the slave is new and it could possibly be the Clutch Master Cylinder. The clutch is a bit weird right when im bringing my foot up the car starts moving but doesnt grip until all the way at the top. So could it be the clutch master cylinder? And how do you change that? Let me know please i been dailying the car like this and it breaks my heart using the tranny like that.

How many miles on the clutch?

I was going to say the hydraulics were bad, but the fact that the clutch engages at the top of the release stroke makes that tough to support. It sounds more like the pressure plate diaphragm spring is shot.

But theres no way it could be the tranny right, it cant be it shifts good. What is that diaphram spring? I am getting the clutch master cylinder for $30 so im gonna go ahead and replace it...i want to replace the clutch as well, but the recent owner said he wanted to as well but it grips great and blah blah blah. So im not sure what to do, and its even harder when money is tight lol.

The LT1 hydraulic setup is best serviced as an assembly. You buy the entire master, slave, reservoir, hoses assembly from GM and just put it in. It's pre-bled, totally plug and play. The LT1 setup has no bleeder designed into it, real PITA to bleed properly.

The diaphragm spring is part of the pressure plate assembly, it's what applies pressure to the clutch disc to smoosh it against the flywheel...and it's what releases pressure when the throwout bearing is pulled back by the slave cylinder. When it gets weak, poor release is a common symptom.

If it's a stock LT1 clutch, you can get a good upgrade cheap by getting the GM LT4 disc and pressure plate (includes throwout bearing) from one of the discount parts dealers. Spend $20 or so having the flywheel resurfaced and you're back in business with a sweet clutch.

GM part#12559912 wholesale price is $122 and change. Some dealer parts depts you might be able to talk into selling you parts at wholesale, likely it will need to be ordered.

Go check around.
