possible new ls1 swap header

this seller sells 3rd gen ls1 swap kits on ebay (BRP MUSCLE RODs). i asked them if they planned on selling any headers. this was his reply:

Im about to release a set for this kit mid september and will be offered up to a 2in primary and a new style of flat collector that is going to give extra ground clerance.

that would be cool if we had another option.

Their website has been saying for months (at least 6) that new 3rd gen swap headers were coming. Based on their other prices, I wouldn't expect them to be much less than the Hawks.

More importantly, does their proposed design permit fitting cats under a lowered car? cats as in catalytic converters, not house pets for little girls.

I really wish Stainless Works would make the headers in regular steel and not just stainless.

i really wish someone made bigger headers than 1 3/4" since 1 7/8" will pick up a lot more power in a serious buildup. Now I have to hand make a second set of headers this winter in the bigger size since the 1 3/4" is a restriction for me.

When PHR dyno'ed a stock LS2, they found 462 HP with 1.75", and 472 with 1.875", so even at that level, bigger is helpful.

If it would get me through the emissions inspection, so I could have headers and valid registration, that's all that matters.

Yea here in MO all I need to do is pass a visual inspection.

It would be nice to see a set of Longtubes that weren't $800

Re: possible new ls1 swap header

lt are nice for a max effort application, but not so necessary for street use.
i put some togther, that are mid length type with 1 3/4 tubes and 3 in. collectors. they offer better ground clearance and ive made them with vband flange sealing, also the y pipe section is a 3 piece also vband flange sealing. 3 piece because it easier to assemble and package. i think they would make for a good budget street car. and still support up to 500bhp

Re: possible new ls1 swap header

He designs the headers then sends them to heddman to make for him.He does test fit them on cars i have seen one of his g body swap kits in person the ls1 fit nice and no header clearance problems at all.

This,

Im currently building a 346 with a ms4, prc 215's and the larger primaries, or even the stepped option would be an awesome gain over the hawks. But i am as well concerned with 4l60e clearance, although if it clears a t56 i dont see wht they wont clear a 4l60e

The header that hawks sells from Stainless Steel does not fit on the 4l60e. I mean they do but you have to modify the tranny a bit and move the right O2 sensor more towards the y-pipe causing o2 reading problems. its possible but the 4l60e just takes up mostly all the room under the car. Even Hawks said that the L/T were made for T56

Would an upgrade to a set of heated 02 sensors fix this? I see your running a 4l60e, are you running stock manifolds or headers?

That being said, If you have a motor making 500hp w/ Mid tubes, slap a set of long tube's on there and your easy up 20+hp.

Yes, midtubes are great for stockish motors. Street or race has nothing to do with the header, as both have to Y the same, and my LT's tucked up beautifully.

When it comes down to it LT's make more power, and if you've invested money in your motor (cam, heads etc etc) it would be a waste to then choke it all with some mid tube headers.

Theirs company's that make mid tubes for 4th gens, but we all run LT's. For a good reason Power! I have LT's, my car is a street car, i wouldnt even think twice about mid tubes cause ive got heads/cam in my car, probably 475-500hp.

as a correction.....the mods to be done to hawks headers to fit are modify the trans shift lever bracket.

the 02 sensor just needs to be moved not necessarly to a y-pipe. if u have the skills or hookup it can be put on the collector itself.

just extra work to get these headers to fit a automatic
