I thought this would be a sticky in here but I dont see it and I searched. Im sure this has been asked before.... But...
I have a 88 tpi car, If I had a complete Lt1 engine, would it be easiest to keep the tpi computer and wiring (and run a distibutor) if even possible..
Or would I be better off to run the Lt1 harness and computer?
Only mod i plan to do is a nice cam and headers.

I will be keeping my stock 700r4 unless i swap to a t56
thanks

You would be best with an LT1 and computer.

While 92-93 LT1 did use the 730 ECM, newer PCMs are always more powerful and easier to deal with

I just dont know anything about wiring so I just thought I should ask. The less cutting on wires I have to do the better off I will be! lol
but it looks like I should probly just find a whole wrecked 6 speed car and have them side by side while doing the swap.... I just figured since this engine was running great on the computer it came with the Lt1 would too.

I didn't know anything about wiring either when I did my swap, but I found some wiring diagrams and just sat and looked at them, compared the two years together and found what I needed and went from there.

If you can find someone that has an AllData or Mitchell's Online (really detailed) probably would be the best thing to do.

this is sounding like alot of work.. only reson im wanting the Lt1 instead of rebuilding the L98 is because the heads will suppord a nice size camshaft and the intake flows way better....

would there be the problem with running a distubutor and keeping the stock ecm and wiring?

There is still a good bit of conversion stuff needed, such as fuel system and cooling

Price for price, why not get a set of used alum heads for the 350?

There's alot more differences between the L98 and the LT1 than just the heads and intake, do yourself a favor, do some reading as the LT1 will be much better than the L98.

As I always say, if you're finding reasons not to do it then it's something that you really aren't wanting to do.
