What do I need to swap in an LT1 into my 91TPI
What do I need to swap in an LT1 into my 91TPI
I have just bought a 95 LT1 and I'm going to put it in my 91 tpi. So far all I have done is pulled out the stock wiring harness and computer and sent it off to Howell Eng. The guys there said they could use my tpi harness and convert it to run the LT1.
I have the following Q?'s:
1. Will the motor drop in and bolt up?
2. Can I still use my beefed up T5?
3. Will the TPI radiator work on the LT1?
If anyone has info on the project to help me out please let me know something.

hey, already done the swap.
-no, you will not need a new radiator, just reverse the hoses
-power steering; easiest thing to do is, under the car, there is a loop in the original tubing, cut it at this loop, leave the original fitting on the steering box, and get I think its called a Swedge-Loc fitting for the other end with some high pressure hose
-a/c; find a carquest catalog and they have a special fitting that bolts to the compressor with swivel 90* tubes coming out the back. to these cut and weld your original lines. you dont have to modify your pass. mount but you do have to cut and weld the crossmember.
-fuel, just figure something out (sorry!) we found these tapered fittings that we simply heated the '95 plastic fuel lines with a heat gun and pressed them onto the fitting, you have to cut it off now, but we left the original screw fitting right behind it
if you need me to clarrify anything, drop me a line and I'll see what I can do

Hey guys thanks for your help.
I was going to get Howell Eng. to do my wire harness for $1,120, but I didn't. He was going to covert the 95' LT1 to run speed density, thats not worth a #%@%. The 95' LT1 ran off of a mass air and the injectors fired in a seq. order. They were not speed density which was batch fire. I got in contact with this guy from LT1.com who specializes in the wiring of an LT1 and the LS1 and told him of the guys from Howell and he helped me out. LT1.com can rewire the stock LT1 harness to fit into my 91' and still keep all of the gauges in the can functional, like:
speedometer
tach
oil pressure
oil level
diognostic prong
temp. gauge
They would also delete all the wires that the 95' harness didn't need to work in the 91' and still keep the computer from running in any type of limp mode. The check engine light will be running properly and the wiring which is to be deleted would be completly deleted which the computer would not turn on the check engine light.
So basiclly everything will still work. There price was only $175 for the wiring.
They could do the programing of the computer but it would be like a hypertech programer. For the mods that I was doing they told me to get in contact with a guy by the name of Ed Wright from Fast Chips and he could do the programing of the computer.
The mods are:
Lunati 383 stroker kit
Comp cam Dur.@50 230/244 Lobe sep. 112 Lift .510/.549
AFR 195's
SLP headers
3' exhaust flowmaster
MSD coil MSD 6A
ported intake
52mm throttle body
30# injectors
3.73 gears
NX wet kit 150 shot
The price for the programing would be about $350.
Does anyone know anything about either one:

If so, let me know somthing.

Hey, I am in the same boat as you...I was told by FIS( http://www.fuelinjection.com )which does wiring harnesses also, and they reommended http://www.carputing.com/ for the computer reprogramming (which you do yourself with a laptop). I am still trying to check everything out before I order eveything, but within a month, I will get this project underway...

Re: What do I need to swap in an LT1 into my 91TPI
Wait wait wait... I'm currently working on this swap. I converted to 4th gen dash and everything. I kept my third gen dash harness, but spliced into 4th gen stuff... Ok so heres my question. Should I use the harness that came with my LT1? Or is there one I can get that's not too expensive that will just plug straight into my 3rd gen harness? So i dont have to cut and modify the big connector on the firewall? My car was originally a TBI car...

Wait wait wait! This thread is almost 8 years old, we have a subforum for LT1 swap discussions, and a sticky that covers it.
