Ugghhhhhh
Well,
Tore my motor outta the trans am to inspect everything, put a bigger cam in, install a new timing set etc etc.
Upon removing the pan, i found shavings against the pickup, and when i removed teh cam, a bearing came out with it
So, spun a cam bearing, destroyed a near brand new comp cam (1700 miles), rod bearings arent brutal, crank needs to be polished.
Either way, financially this is more then i can take, so im selling all my mods, wrapping the 6.0L shortblock up, setting it aside. Ill put a 5.3L in the car, and eventually ill get back to the motor to build a nice turbo or supercharged setup.
In the mean time, i get to loose 500hp, and have a slow *** 320hp 5.3L trans am
Needless to say, this has crushed me. Ive been so excited for how the car would be in the spring, now im depressed, and selling all my mods to recoup some funds.
F my life.

Re: Ugghhhhhh
could be worse, could have an L03 like I do. I'd love a 320 horse 5.3 right about now!!
Better yet, an L03 backed by a 700r4 that's lost 3rd and 4th gear, now thats fun to drive right!

Dang, sorry to hear that Sheldon, that really sucks.
But I'll bet that if you give it time, the sting will fade a bit, & it won't seem quite as jacked up as it is now.
Although it definitely does suck.

Man Sheldon, that sucks big time. I'm sorry to hear that. What kind of mods will you be selling? Maybe some of us can help you out by buying up some of the stuff.

Re: Ugghhhhhh
Appreciate it guys!
You guys are like an extended family, such a awesome community in the LSx/LTx area here!
Here's my LS1tech thread:

I know money was getting super tight in relation to my move, so im hoping this is a way of me keeping my car and recouping some funds. Atleast ill still have my iroc-z and the 6.0L, so eventually ill be able to do something great with them

Re: Ugghhhhhh
Not sure, the block isnt damaged, but the cam is smoked, it looks like it got really hot from the spinning. Theirs shavings everywhere in the motor, so i know its hosed.
looks like the cam was rubbing the bearing, then got hot enough to microweld itself to the bearing, and brought the bearing with it.

I'm no expert but I thought if a cam berring spun in a block the block was junk. Not sure but I would definatly mesure the bore to be sure.

Re: Ugghhhhhh
I havent measured it yet, but visually checking their is 0 scoring, wear or anything on the block. looks like the bearing left, and then almost as if the bearing acted like it was still a bearing, but attached to the cam, rather then the block?
Ill find out soon, but their looks to be 0 damage to the block

Re: Ugghhhhhh
if it spun a cam bearing, then it did damage the block. I've yet to see even 1 exception. So, get a 5.3 block, get it bored and honed to match your 6.0 pistons, and reassemble. If it's an '01-up block, it will safely go that far, and be reliable. Same water jackets. Just more stealthy.

Its an exception. Ill get pictures for you guys, but visually, im seeing that their is 0 damage to the block.
When i look @ the bore for the cam, there is 0 scoring, 0 marks etc. Essentially looks like the cam bearing was just removed.
Ive measured the cam journals, their would have been .0005" clearance between the bearings & journals, so im not surprised it destroyed it.
Forsure know that comp just either forgot to grind the journal's after they were lathed, or i dunno what. But it wasnt ground, and i never thought that they would do something like that so i never measured the journal diameter.
As for the 5.3L, i bought another 5.3L for $300 from a local JY. Going to throw a little cam in it, and run it with the full bolt ons, maybe see 330-350hp at best. Good enough for now, then the 6.0L will sit aside and ill use it for my iroc-z im thinking.
