6.0 L ls2/T56 swap in 91 Z28
Re: 6.0 L ls2/T56 swap in 91 Z28
ya that was a huge relief when she fired up and stayed running, i was afraid there would be something else to do but now its onto finishing this up and getting back on the road. hopefully get it alligned and in for exhaust within a week or two even though open headers just sounds so damn good hahaha
Re: 6.0 L ls2/T56 swap in 91 Z28
4 corner steam ports collect in the steam tubes that go under the intake, itll have a single port in the front that most put into the waterpump
Re: 6.0 L ls2/T56 swap in 91 Z28
Ya I just ran mine into the rad, it doesn't look the greatest but I could do something else some other time, I just want to get it back on the road
Re: 6.0 L ls2/T56 swap in 91 Z28
so ive taken the car out now and i love it but there is still some work to do, the harmonic balancer needs to be changed cause its wobling and the shifter cup still needs to be changed (i built a shifter for the time being) but ther than that shes ready to terrorize the streets. its pretty well done for this year, but come winter im gonne redo some things to clean up the engine bay and make it look better but right now im losing my precious summer driving time and before i know it there will be 4 feet of snow here haha but anyways heres some crappy phone pics
Re: 6.0 L ls2/T56 swap in 91 Z28
Hey cramer. You should get some heavy buffing compound, and a high speed buffer, and go to town on your taillights. If done right, the reverse lights will be nice and white again, and the rest of the taillight will be high gloss like the rest of the car. Looks hot man. Nice job!!!!!!!!

Just awesome. I have about the same color 91 Z and am about to embark upon the same swap. I'm definately suscribing to your thread. I'm searching salvage yards and ebay for a nice low milage ls2/t56 or ls2/4l60e. Great work!

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has a picture of the plug that the ac request wire ties into, my ac compressor is not kicking on and I think I have this hooked up wrong, and possibky my relay but I'm going to start with this, thanks
Re: 6.0 L ls2/T56 swap in 91 Z28

Your 91 will have the red power wire incorporated into the connector, so youll have 3-4 wires in there. It comes from the HVAC head unit and sends 12v to the PCM. Blue or green wire depending on the year. Check over ATGO to find the schematic or your car

The first diagram is the most common for swaps using the 4th gen AC pressure switch

Re: 6.0 L ls2/T56 swap in 91 Z28
It may be in the BCM for GEN IV engines and communicated via the serial data connection from BCM to PCM
All the request wire does is bump up the idle to prevent stalling at low engine speeds when the AC is turned on so I dont see why it's 100% required. Carb cars had AC but no electronic control system to step up the idle. Id wager to run it without a PCM connection and use the AC request wire to engage a relay for the AC clutch. You may have to keep an eye on the tach and feather the throttle with a lumpy cam when turning AC on at idle
In the diagrams for the link above, the AC relay was called by the ground leg to the PCM. Ground the 85 terminal and hook the request wire to 86. You can incorporate a 3rd gen pressure sensor in an AC line to interrupt the clutch voltage as a precaution, but again, it's not necessary to run

I have already wired in the pressure sunsor from the gto and I put a relay in with the ac clutch wire, ac relay wire and 2 battery power wires but my compressor is not kicking in so I'm guessing this relay is wired wrong, I'm using a 3rd gen stock fan relay, ill post what wire I have were when I get to the garage

Kudos on the great swap! It looks great and your attention to detail is commendable. I have a couple of quick questions and I apologize if some of them were covered already and I missed them.
1. What did you end up doing about your front spring situation? Your final stance looks great.
2. Did you happen to get a final curb weight of your car with the new engine and tubular suspension? I would bet you have shaved 200+ lbs off of the stock OEM weight.
3. Did you end up changing the tailhouse extension on the GTO transmission to make it 3rd/4th gen compatible? (or are you running an auto?)
4. You mentioned that you used the GM controller. Did you retain the drive by wire and pedal assembly that comes with the controller or did you go with an LSX cable throttle body and stock pedal(s)?
5. What did you do for power sterring lines? Did you fabricate new ones or retrofit another OEM type application? Same for the AC lines?
Thanks in advance, and again fantastic swap. It looks great and you did a top notch job!

2. i have not been out to the local track yet to get it weighed but i will post when i do.
3.i did have to change the shifter cup in the t56 to make it work.
4. i did use the dbw pedal from the gto and my brake and clutch pedal are from a 4th gen camaro.
5.for power steering lines i used the stock 3rd gen return line but had to rig up my own feed line out of fittings from a local fitting shop, ac lines i bought the conversion lines from hawks but do not reccomend this because the longer line was wayyyy to long, i had to have a new one made about a foot and a half shorter so that was a waste of money.

Hi,
I am planning on a swap on my '91 and came across this! Thank you for the details, they would be of great help!
Do you still have the car? What were it's times at the track?
Great job!
