LQ4 into my 3rd gen
LQ4 into my 3rd gen
I'm still looking around for a good 383 builder and I've ran into a guy who is selling an LQ4. How are the possibilities of a 383 stroker build for it? I'm also looking for 500 plus horses. My other option is LT1. What do you guys think? Just thought id ask for advice from some more sources before I move forward on this thanks

LQ4 is an LSx swap, so I moved this into that sub-forum.
You can get stroker kits for LQ4's, but it won't likely be a 383. 402-408 is more like it.
500 HP should be a walk in the park if you choose the right parts.
But, it will be a lot more involved than a Gen I 383.

You don't need a stroker to get 500 HP. All you need, besides headers and the LS6 intake manifold, is ported 5.3 heads from TEA, and any cam equal to or "bigger" than Lunati's smallest VooDoo cam. That combo there will give you right at 500 crankshaft HP at 5800 rpm, and will pull 6200 just fine. That's with a glass-smooth idle. You can go pretty big with the cam and still have a "stock" idle, properly tuned. A good next step up would be Speed Inc.'s TBSS cam. It'll peak around 6100, and pull 6500, with a mild idle. But then you're certainly over 500 HP. (still assuming the TEA 5.3 heads)
Ported 5.3 heads are a great choice for the LQ4 because of the dished pistons. A 59cc head should get you to 10.6:1. This sounds like a lot to the SBC guys, but in the LS world, it's nothing.
