New lt1 guy
Hey guys. Let me start off by I introducing myself. My name is Dustin and I'm a 21 year old married welder from Ohio. I have a 84 15 anny bird awaiting a engine swap. I just picked up a 93 lt1 with 6 speed but no harness for 1k. I can get a ecu and harness from the junkyard. But for a little more money I can get a painless harness from what I read. Will this be alot easier or not. Also my bellhousing is off due to a huge crack. So I need one if anyone has one.if anyone has a lt style let me know. Also I don't have a clutch fork or anything and I don't know what all I need. The clutch is still on the motor. All I have is the tranny itself. Let me know if you guys have anything that I need or atleast what I need to get in motion with the swap.
Dustin

If you pick up a harness, get a '94 at the minimum (fbody would be the best one to get). The '93 was still an ECM that required chips to be burned to tune, vs a PCM which started in '94 that was flash based and easier to tune as well.
I would recommend a '95, but that would require an opti change, plus cam change as well.

Wouldn't a harness from
anything other than a 93 mess the motor up do to the batch fire and no maf sensor?

Re: New lt1 guy
Opti change was done in the small 12" harness from the engine to the opti. wiring up to that connector didnt change over the years
I agree, use a 94+ harness on the 93 engine
I have a LT1 harness FS currently that should be cheaper than a painless kit. Send me your 3rd gen harness and I can truly make it a painless install

Re: New lt1 guy
The engine has no idea whats controlling it and the ECM has no idea what its running. Its given feedback from various sensors, but it really doesnt know the specifics. Mix and match to your hearts content
Same thing as older TPI cars being ran with the SD harness

Yeah, I was thinking the '95 for the vented opti (it also had the biggest cam in the LT1s), but I believe you can get a vented cap for the opti now for the '93-'94 opti's.

I plan on doin a vented opti swap when I swap cam and heads. If I go to a newer harness do have to get a maf sensor? Pocket when u say to send you my harness what all does that involve removing? Would I have to pull the has and everything? How much will u charge me.
Still need anwsers or pictures of a lt1 t56 tranny.

Re: New lt1 guy
You will need the Bellhousing Clutch fork and the hydraulics, and shifter for the lt t56. The pedals from the thirdgen can be reused if originaly a t5, if not then get those as well. Then obviously you will need the flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate. Thats all i can think of off the top of my head.

Re: New lt1 guy
Here's the stock pressure plate, you can see an aftermarket disc behind them, the flywheel is under the disc

Here's one of the inside of the bellhousing (you can see the shift fork through all the oil at the lower right)

and here you can see the transmission bolted to the motor, the where the slave cylinder bolts up at the lower left corner and bolts from the rear to the front.
