Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy
Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy
Just got through all these pages. You sir are an inspiration to all of us amateurs. I plan on doing the same with my car in about a year or two. I need to save up the money first. I would like to have most of the parts needed before I start the build so I don't have to wait. Seeing what others are doing helps me decide on the parts I want. I currently have a 350 TPI and wasn't sure if I wanted to keep it or go for the LSx. I really do like the look of yours though so I am leaning that way.
Keep up the good work!

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy
A little while ago, I had to let go of my 86. The engine went and I wouldn't have been able to keep it in that condition where I was living at. Now, we bought a house with a garage and I'm gung-ho about getting another Thirdgen and restoring it. What Blake has done gave me inspiration to do a complete tear down on a Camaro. What the hell, I have the garage to do it in now.

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy
Plz forgive my ignorace... how the heck do I grease the bushings on my UMI a-arms??? How to I grease the roto-joints on my LCA and PHB??? Should I grease the Sway Bar bushings as well??? Do the endlinks need it??
How do I pack grease into the wheel bearings (LS1 Brake swap)??? I've been avoiding making any un-nessacary posts (this thread has been flooded more than enough). I just need a lil help.

poly bushings you usually take off and grease between the bushing and metal, so for sway bars i usually grease between brakcet an bushing and bushing and sway bar. does that make any sense?
end links dont really need it but a tiny bit couldnt hurt as they may squeak. teh bushings on your a arms if they dont have a grease fitting then you get to take then off and do it how i mentioned before. the wheel bearing you take off the wheel take off the dust cap and just packe it in there with a grease gun or finger. i like to spin the wheel a little to moake sure it got in the and the give another squirt if it absorbed alot.
make unnecesary posts i though this thread died. ive been checking back for updates in case my notifications werent working.

sometimes grease is supplied otherwise id think wheel bearing grease for wheel bearings for sure. and either that/multipurpose/ or white lithium grease for the bushings. i think any will work.

You want to use synthetic grease on your poly bushings.
Regular grease could cause them to deteriorate... that's the word from them that's supposed to know... Steve Spohn, etc.

when you do wheel bearins put a nice chunk of grease in the palm of your hand, and starting at the bottom of the bearing you "pack" it in there until it starts coming up the top., and do that around the whole bearing, this may get messy. Sorry but alittle grease on the end of it just wont due. Must be packed in there. Pics?

I believe the point is to get all of the air pockets out of the bearing so that it's packed completely full of grease. Then pack that hub full of it once you get it together. Junior Member

You can buy a tool at any parts store that has 2 plastic discs that unscrew and you put the bearing between them and it has a zerk fitting to pump grease in till it comes out through all the holes. After using this tool i will never hand pack bearings again. It was the best 8 bucks ive spent.

4th gens use a sealed hub assembly, but it is not compatible at all with the 3rd gen spindle. For a brake conversion a disk brake rotors is trimmed down to a hub, but still retains the stock spindle and bearings
So, no. You use the stock bearings packed with grease

Congraulations on your dedication to the project. Gaining experience (even if you have to do things twice) is what learning is all about. At least you can say with pride that you built it yourself. People can not truely appreciate the effort involved until they try to build one. Good luck with your project.

Glad to see your still moving along on this! Congrats on the baby girl too!! Sometimes life gets in the way of the hobby, but the car will always be there no matter how long of a break you take from working on it. Mine took 4 years to complete, and sometimes I'd go for a month or two without touching it much. With a project of this size though, you need those breaks in between. Keep the pics coming as you make progress man, and good luck as always.

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy
astro or jeep shaft splines are the same, have to grind the upper shaft that attaches to the column to allow the bolt to go through. i actually did this on my lifted 93 yukon. the bigger tires ate the rag joint to death i put a jeep shaft in withing 30 minutes and i have no slop whatsoever. if you need more details shoot me a pm my friend blasts and powders them to swap into cars.

looks really good keep up the work it sucks when you start a project like this because you want to get it done fast but reality kicks in and it takes months even years but you are doing it the right way once

I'm really diggin the semi-flat black finish with those wheels. Car is going to be super sleek when done man. MUCH better than the original white!! I can't wait to see it back from paint.

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy
At first glance I thought the springs raised the car instead of lowering it. The front has a lot more fender gap than the rear. Then I remembered that these are staggered Vette wheels.
18x9.5 front
19x10 rear
Wheels seem to fit with 2" spacers all around w/o any rubbing. The difference in wheel wheel size makes the gap look big!! I need to raise the rear or lower the front.
see what I mean?

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy
There's a mechanic who has an 89 with T Tops by me. He's pulling the engine and transmission (also a few other things). He wanted to scrap the rest, but I told him I'll take it and build onto that. If I'm able to get it, I hope my build goes as well as this one!
Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy
Actually, it's a 91 and I was able to get it from him cheap! I'm going to utilize this thread for ideas. Great thread, by the way!

Looks good. Give a good check for rust. This thread shows where you should look, and how extensive repairs can be.https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...inal-88-a.html
