Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy

You dont have to strip the body panels off to pull the engine from the bottom. Some pull the nose simply to prevent possible damage if the cherry picker arm is short

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...-go-again.html
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...-lsx-swap.html
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...-swap-2-a.html

Your front fenders are also convertible specific. T/hardtops use a single mount under the rocker while it seems yours uses two bolts from the very bottom and door opening. If you're replacing the dented fender, some welding is required

Move the mount point out to 1/2 ton for an extra 6". Thats 1,000lbs still. Once the drivetrain is disconnected you can lift the nose of the car up by hand, so itll never come close to maxing out the cherry picker

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy

Ditto what pocket said. Just be safe about it. When you are lifting the car with the motor and all still attached, dont go under the car, or let anyone else under it. Have jack stands there just in case.

But Ive done it that way half a dozen times now with no issues. Putting the hoist on a lower weight setting will get the job done just fine.

Looking good by the way!

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy

Nice...nothing like fresh parts! Stinks about the ding in the back. Thats a fairly easy place to fix especially since it doesnt line up with anything.

Is that damage on the front of the hood too? Or just funky reflextions. that would be a little more fun to deal with.

Glad to hear they kicked some money back your way. I hate shipping items like that. UPS/FedEX dont give a $#@! if they bust up packages and that enfuriates me.

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy

More pix of other parts soon. I'm still not sure if I want to remove the engine and tranny myself. I don't need or have anywhere to put them. I may let my mechanic pull all that out and just perform the swap myself. I gotta talk numbers with him...

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy

Not really wanting to rub anybody the wrong way but this thread is now two long pages long and there is almost nothing in it regarding an LTX or LSX motor swap. I really think the bulk of what is here already belongs in the Body subforum and post a new thread here regarding old motor removal and new motor installation when it begins.

Just my.02,
Mike

Nice! That bumper cover is sweet....GM box and all. Didnt think any of those even existed anymore! That bolt kit is also sweet... I hate...HATE...using old hardware. Especially those body screws. They're almost always rusted or boogered up.

heres how i did mine. picker in front to raise the body and put engine underneath.

and i angled the hoist to lift the engine up. i had no problems.

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy

i have seen people bring the hoist from the side of the car putting the engine in from the top. with my lt1 i just went in from the top (engine and trans) from the front, and i put a towel between the hoist and the car. it rested on the front grille for just as long as it took to lower the engine, and then we were done. no dent, no scratch.
but you are right it is impossible to go from the top and clear the nose completely without pulling the front clip, which i thought you already did.

Blake, Looks like you are well on your way! I'm excited to follow this thread as I am doing a LS-1/T-56 Swap myself and I learn a lot from the different threads on it. I'm excited to see your progress keep it coming!

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy

Should have left the wiring on the engine. Its 10x easier than tracing each bundle as it wraps the engine

I prefer out the bottom drops. With a lift I had the whole front end on the ground in 3 hours working by myself. Using a cherry picker wouldnt be much different
