Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy

Hello, I am putting together a list of the LS and LT swaps here on TGO this looks like something that should be on the list. If you are willing to add your thread you can paste it here in a reply: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...ltx-swaps.html and will get it added to the list.

Actually, those will be less work. Having done both, I can attest to that.

I used the non-setback type and notched the K-member. The Hawks swap tranny crossmember lined up fine.

Be aware that if you use the plates, you can't use the 4th gen AC compressor.

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy

Dont forget about that top bolt on the pedal set... The one that screws up from the bottom (vertically). Those dont usually line up, and you'll probably have to adjust the hole in the pedal bracketry.

Everythying else looks good... You did the right thing by drilling the holes out. If you used a 4th gen booster you wouldnt have had to do that. Or if you had used 3rd gen pedals.

I honestly dont see the point in using the 4th gen gas pedal though. By the time you bend things and get the brackets to bolt up, you could have just sliced it off and used the modular 3rd gen pedal. But if you can get it work for ya great!

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy

I never got the top hole in the 4th gen pedals to line up enough to put a bolt through it. I ended up using 3rd gen pedals and putting a different pin on it to fit the master cylinder rod. It works great, plus the 3rd gen pedals are beefier believe it or not.

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy

There ya go...that'll work.

In order to get my top hole to line up, I had to egg the hole out to the side. Kinda hard to explain, but you just gotta see how it lines up and adjust the hole. You DEF want to make sure you get that bolt in though.

Thats exactly what I said haha. When I did my second swap, the car was so clean to start with, that I was slightly ahead of the game compared to the first car. But I still didnt strip a lot of the gunk off the under carriage like Blake and some of the other guys have. I always say that if I take it back apart, which is gonna happen, I would clean/paint more.

On the other hand...the car gets driven in all weather (obviously) and that under coating has probably kept the car as rust free as it is. So Im kind of torn on that. No one really sees under the car but me anyway haha.

Good work getting her cleaned up Blake!

Great post. If you remove the plastic cover from the steering shaft there will be a bolt under it by power steering box, 11mm. I would guess you have already unbolted the top steering shaft bolt since its visible. After unbolting the two take a prybar and pry from gear box. Steering shaft should come out, and then steering wheel.

yea mine runs great as it is but it sits under a car cover all winter long. it has no rust at all and i intend to keep it that way, i just want to hide as mush wiring as i can, fill firewall holes and paint the motor bay. i'll be pulling the motor out at some point to do it, no big deal. But yea blake keep up the nice work.

Re: Blakes LSx swap - pic/vid heavy

That's the inspiration i needed to clean the underside of my car. Tomorrow is the beginning of that for myself. I'll be patching a small hole in my floorboard, then coating with rust bullet, followed by some type of liner like you will be doing. I wasnt happy with the cleaning and painting i did. i just pulled my lq9 and t56 to clean, weld patch and subframe connectors, and coat with a rust blocker and undercoating. You've put a lot of work in to your car, keep it up! It's turning out amazing

I think that bed liner is a great idea. A local off road friend here did his entire CJ5 jeep tub with Line-x and hes pounds the living hell out of it off road through dense bush etc and it doesnt leave a mark. Plus it soooooo tight and relatively noise free. It kind of works like duramat in terms of deadening the sounds that transmit so a double bonus there.

My 87 is in need of paint again soon so I may follow this lead. Good job on the swap overall man dont give up until shes on the road
