This just in

Hopefully everyone's LSx based motor will last this long

Just rolled it over this morning, only mods are a lid and LS7 clutch, one waterpump, one alternator and one rack is all that I've done on it, everything else is all original on it. Not bad for only the second year this motor was produced.

Not bad at all. Out beats the LT1s. They usually need head gaskets and or bearings by 180k.

Re: This just in

I rebuilt my LT1 that had 150k on it, only because the oilpump dropped to 0 for a second and I had a little rattle in the motor.

Re: This just in

There's a reason that 5.3s are so cheap in junk yards... they're full of them. Nobody buys them because nobody needs to replace the one they have.

Re: This just in

I will say my 6.0 has certainly put up with abuses that I SWEAR should have destroyed a motor long ago...

Indeed. I should note that although my LS1 only had around 80k miles on it when I sold it for the four years i ran it I bounced it off the 7000 RPM limiter often. Launched off the limiter lots etc. That thing runs stronger today than ever the guy I sold it to is LOVING it LOL.

I saw a GREAT sig once over at LS1tech where it was the famous Michelangelo "The Creation of Adam" painting ( google it of you dont know ) but instead of Adam the guy had photoshopped an LS1 in place and the caption read "Touched by the hand of God" LOL I laughed my *** off over that one. So true! These things have more than nine lives

Re: This just in

My machinist has commented multiple times that my 6.0 block "looks brand new". The bearings were like brand new when I pulled it, and the bore only measured .0015 over the factory 4.0". That's from a 130k mile motor.

Re: This just in

Too true, If nothing else he must like it and at least looks out for them.

I had a stock 5.7 tune in my PCM while running a cammed, stalled 6.0. Ran like junk, and I had no clue why, stayed like that for 2 years before I could get a tuner to look into it. Timing was pushed up to 30*+ throught the entire RPM range, missfire detection was disabled.

The shop that did the swap also used a LQ9 crank spacer, and flywheel with a 4L60E and a 4L60E converter, destroyed the flywheel and converter and pump splines. Trans and motor lived.

The motor was run for nearly 2 years with 2 Leaks at the TB, a Map sensor that wasn't even IN the intake manifold, large leaks around the exhaust manifold collector throwing off the O2s. The oil pan had also not been torqued down, constantly leaking oil all over.

The wiring shorted out the fuel pump, blew 5 alternators, and killed 2 Sets of O2s.

The walbro fuel pump was installed without a sock, sucking up untold garbage and trash until it was whining like a wounded rabbit.

Cooling system was installed without any thermostat at all, causing overcooling at cruise, an overheating in traffic.

After all of that, two years of daily driving, and countless beatings, it still spins the tires from a roll to 85.

OP I'd say if you treat her well - you'll see 300k no problem LOL
