alternator wiring?

ok, i am searching, but i want to ask here too for any ideas. the car just died, and i mean no electircal power anywhere. i haven't been able to find a blown fuse, and i can't think of a fuse that would kill the entire car anyway. so i am left with maybe the alternator isn't charging, and it just drained the battery and now its dead. what wires do i need to check on the alt? its a truck alternator, from an 03 on a truck motor. i know the grey duty cycle wire is going back to the ecm, checked that one already. is there supposed to be constant power to one of the other ones? anything else i need ot look at on the alt to get her up again? thanks, nick

Re: alternator wiring?

Gray wire gets 12v during run, brown wire gets around 9v whenever the PCM commands a charge cycle. These are fed by the PCM directly, so the onyl fuse that may be blown would be a PCM fuse. The car wont run period of the battery or IGN fuses are blown

Charge up your battery and fire the car. Check the voltmeter and see where it indicates. 9-12v means you're on battery power and the alt is dead. 14+/- means all is well and the issue is elsewhere

Re: alternator wiring?

apparently my alternator is not my issue after all. i have power at the battery, and it will now turn on dome lights, etc with the key, until you turn the kefy to start it. as soon as you try to start, the whole car is dead again. after it sits for a while it'll have power again, and maybe it will even crank, or else it'll just die again. this is really strange. any thoughts?
