Shopping list for swap - Am I missing anything?

After scouring the board for answers and trying to compile a shopping list I think I might have what I need, except the exhaust system. I'll deal with that a bit later. Please look over the list and tell me if I'm overlooking something. I'm trying to make this as complete as possible and make the fewest amount of trips to the parts store.

Re: Shopping list for swap - Am I missing anything?

missing the exhaust. do you want long tubes or shorties? and which exhaust system do you want to follow .

you might not want to change the cam depending on what you will do with the car.

i have a stock Lq9 with the ls6 intake long tubes. and its a beast

is this a track car or just for cruising?

Re: Shopping list for swap - Am I missing anything?

I left the exhaust off because I haven't decided exactly what/where to get it. I do plan on long tubes and that's why I went with Hawks x-member as it seems to have a little more room for the exhaust pieces. I threw the cam in there just to see what people thought and since the engine will be out it would be easier to swap in now instead of later. It's only going to be a cruiser so i might just leave stock cam in there.

Definitely hit up "Patrick G" over on LS1tech for your cam, one of the best guys to give you that custom grind for some extra HP.

Re: Shopping list for swap - Am I missing anything?

Fluids
Heater core lines
Hose clamps
Method to tee the steam line back into the coolant system
New GM pans have the new filter threads. Remember that when you try and put the Fbody filter on and it doesnt go. Get one for the '10 LS3 camaros
Bolts for various parts of the engine
Method of securing the throttle cable to the firewall
Trans lines and adapter fittings
PS high pressure line
Belt
Exhaust hangars

Lots of stuff you can tack on there

Got it...but outside of the small hardware and fluids I should be covered?

You've got the big stuff covered, but the big stuff are the cheap pieces of a swap

Re: Shopping list for swap - Am I missing anything?

too true pocket. i've been in and out of the hardware store 3 times this week alone and I'm still forgetting the little stuff here and there.

the big stuff's easy, its the stupid oddball bolt, fitting, or clamp you forget here and there that holds things up. especially when its mail-order only...

This is exactly it! It's the little things that kill you during this swap

Re: Shopping list for swap - Am I missing anything?

Fortunately I've got the small hardware part and hose aspect of things covered. I can make my own hoses if need be at work, hydraulic or otherwise.. But you're right...it's the mail order stuff I want to try to avoid.

One question though. My understanding is that the 4L60E is an updated version of the 700R4, so is it safe to assume that all the linkages will swap over?

Re: Shopping list for swap - Am I missing anything?

You reuse the shifter arm off the 700R4, shifter in the console, cable, bracket

Move the bracket forward one bolt hole from where it was on the 700R4

Easy peasy

which is exactly where i wasn't thinking when i sold off my 700r4; should have kept the shift linkage and dipstick setup.

there goes another $20-50 (the way ebay goes....)

Cool. Glad that something can be reused . Anything else you can think of that I should salvage off of the 305/700R4 combo for re-purposing? I rebuilt the carb this spring so I imagine I can get a buck or two for that.

Re: Shopping list for swap - Am I missing anything?

My old 700R4 (actually was a 4L60) sold very easily. Serp brackets went next. Cant get $100 for my old TBI engine, dont have the heart to scrap it. It's stuck with mockup duty now

My 305 had a gallon of antifreeze in the oil pan, so i'm pretty sure it was well beyond its useful life. I let it go on craigslist for free; apparently its living on as a coffee table

Re: Shopping list for swap - Am I missing anything?

Sorry to dig this back up but...I have another question. I have a good lead on a LQ9 shortblock. As such it does not come with starter, alternator, PS pump etc etc. In the spirit of saving a bit on shipping cost, is there anything in the form of accessories that can be reused of the old 305 before I buy the other stuff I need. Alternator I assume should be. What about starter etc?

Re: Shopping list for swap - Am I missing anything?

so wanted to say thanks for sharing cause i am at the same stage of the build and all i am trying to get right now are the big pieces ... it is good to see someone else put this info up seeing as i am 1/10th as car smart as the dumbest person on here. and yes, for those that actually bothered to read this, that would in fact make me the dumbest person on here... in relation to cars.
