LSx swap in progress...what wiring do I keep?

Ok Im swapping a LQ4 408 into my car ('85 camaro with old LG4 motor). Now motor and tranny is out. Im trying to clean up the engine bay to paint and wanted to remove most of the wiring.

My question is what can I remove completely and what has to stay? I noticed the main big harness that was going to the side fender on passenger side. Also another smaller harness type that was about midway of the firewall kinda below where the a/c was. And there are also some connectors that are on the driver side far top (i think to the headlights and brake fluid reservoir?)

I plan to go with a th350/th400 tranny so I wont need the tranny harness right? Any help I would appreciate. thanks guys!

I would start by finding some wiring diagrams for the year of your harness and taking a good long look at that. After you get familiar with it then take some tape or sticky labels and mark every connector on that harness. Maf sensor plug, coolant sensor plug, pcm, etc. After everything is labeled then you must decide how deep into the wiring project you want to go. Do you want to splice into your third gen harness? Do you want to use the 4th gen harness to run lights, fans, gauges? Do you want a drag car style harness? Depending on where you want to go with the car depends on what you need to keep or remove with the harness.

When it comes to wiring, Pocket knows all: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...p-3rd-gen.html

Well Its not gonna be mainly a drag car but more of a weekend warrior. It wont have a/c. I would like to keep headlights, factory guages and will run an electric fan. So would It be better to splice from the factory harness into the lsx harness?

Read the threads in the sticky. You build the harness for your goals, so not wanting AC, emissions etc means just not putting the wires back in there

Yeah I don't want to put that stuff back in and keep it cluttered. So is the main harness the ones that runs through the pass side fender wall area? And in my '85 camaro I assume my pcm is underneath the passenger dash? To take this stuff out, will I have to remove my whole dash?

Sorry for all the questions man, this is a lot of new stuff to me but I am reading all that I can everyday.
